    Financial Sector Prudential Policy Researcher

    The primary objective of this role is to conduct research and analysis on financial sector prudential policy matters. This involves monitoring and influencing the policy positions of international standard-setting bodies, as well as local policy matters set by National Treasury and the legislator.

    This position requires a high level of expertise in financial regulation and policy-making. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • Implementing Micro-Prudential Regulation: Focus on FinTech regulatory objectives and strategic implementation plans.
    • FinTech Analysis: Assess the relevance and appropriateness of FinTech developments globally and locally, with respect to the Prudential Authorities' mandate.
    • Policy Position Development: Create or refine policy tools and regulatory frameworks related to FinTech, banking, insurance, financial market infrastructures, financial inclusion, and other relevant areas within the PA's mandate.
    • Prudential Policy Administration: Implement and administer prudential policy and tools.
    • Collaboration Mechanisms: Design and implement cooperation mechanisms with the organisation for promoting financial stability.
    • Regulatory Frameworks Analysis: Analyse domestic and global regulations, including their impact on FinTech, banking, insurance, and financial market infrastructures.
    • Global Prudential Policy Monitoring: Monitor global prudential policy implementation frameworks and their effects on local regulatory frameworks.
    • Specialised Regulatory Frameworks: Provide detailed regulatory frameworks on prudential regulation in a Twin Peaks framework, focusing on FinTech.
    • Regulatory Instrument Drafting: Develop regulatory frameworks and instruments related to financial regulation.
    • International Representation: Represent South Africa and influence international standard-setting bodies.
    • Legislative Representation: Represent the PA in Parliament and other forums on policy matters and legislation.
    • Standard Adaptation: Adopt and adapt international standards to meet South African requirements while ensuring compliance with international criteria.
    • Policymaking Governance: Serve as a custodian of the PA Policy Panel and related governance processes.

    Requirements

    • A postgraduate degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, Insurance/ Banking, or Economics.
    • No less than 8 years of experience in the financial sector.

    Estimated Salary: R1,200,000 - R1,500,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
