    Brief Description

    The role aims to lead a team of quantitative analysts focused on risk measurement models for credit, market, and operational risks. Responsibilities may extend to economic capital and stress testing.

    Detailed Description

    The ideal candidate will oversee key performance areas including:

    • Leading and managing quantitative analysts responsible for assessing banks' regulatory capital applications using advanced approaches like AIRB.
    • Evaluating material changes to risk measurement models used by banks on the AIRB approach.
    • Monitoring industry-wide risk measurement models, analyzing data, and conducting thematic reviews.
    • Providing training to staff members on risk measurement models.
    • Offering technical assistance and guidance to quantitative analysts.
    • Managing team deliverables, work plans, resource allocation, and driving change and innovation.
    • Ensuring integrity and validity of model-based regulatory data reported by banks.
    • Managing team performance, talent management, learning, and development, as well as succession planning.
    • Contributing to compliance with South African Reserve Bank's governance, risk management, and information management policies.
    • Participating in special projects within the Prudential Authority.

    Qualifications

    To be considered, candidates must have:

    • A postgraduate degree (at least NQF level 8) in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
    • 8-10 years of experience in model validation and/or development in the financial sector.
    • Two years of experience in managing people.

    Job-related Knowledge:

    • Familiarity with relevant legislation and supervisory frameworks applicable to South African financial entities.
    • Understanding of key issues and risks facing registered financial entities.
    • Knowledge of the financial system, products, risk models, and systems.
    • Comprehensive understanding of the Basel framework.
    • Knowledge of risk management practices and standards.
    • Expertise in regulatory models and model validation methodologies.
