SHE Officer needed with previous experience in steel fabrication along with a Post NQF Level 4 Qualification in Safety Management and SAMTRAC\COMSOC, HIRA, Incident Investigation.


Experience required:
Minimum 5 years' experience on construction sites (multi-disciplinary civil, structural, mechanical, electrical). Minimum 2 years' experience in a workshop environment. Minimum 2 years' practical experience at a supervisory level.

Thorough knowledge of the BCEA, LRA, OHS Act, MHS Act, COID Act and OHSAS/ISO Systems, NEMA, NWA and other relevant legislation.

Primary Purpose:
Achieving safety targets, ensuring a safe environment for workforce in workshops and on construction sites.


Job description / core competencies:
Achieving of annual safety targets.

Compile and distribute monthly statistics.

Implementation of Health, Safety and Environment System, including training, maintenance, system compliance and checklists, learning and improvements from incidents.

Actions taken from audits (internal & external).

Conduct investigations, compile incident reports, listing preventive actions and update data for analytics of accidents and near misses.

Effective closing of incident reports.


Support Head of Operations with all procedures and administration to ensure that SHE is implemented correctly, and all legal requirements are fully adhered to.

Developing proactive initiatives to promote safety and adherence to safety system and based on near missed or accidents.

Work closely with the SHEQ consultant to improve safety system.

Compile monthly SHE committee minutes.

Ensure all appointed personnel understand their liabilities & responsibilities.


Ensure all appointed personnel are competent and able to fulfil their obligations in terms of their appointment and scope of work.

Arrange and facilitate annual medicals and monitor employees temporary unfit.

Arrange entry and exit medicals.

Update, distribute and facilitate two weekly SHE action list.

Capture data of weekly workshop walkabout inspections on database and follow up on close out of deviations.

Monthly monitoring of SHE Checklists before Safety committee meeting.

Compile feedback report for near misses & all types of incidents and update register.

Conduct and follow up on SHE audits with sub-contractor partners (every 3 months).

Update employee register with new employees and safety training conducted e.g. Inductions, SOP's, Risk assessments.

Monthly update of incident & NCR register.

Update Risk Assessment with incidents and corrective action/control measures which occurred in the month.

Capture PTO's data for analytics and identity and notify areas to be monitored (every 3 months).

Yearly update of Induction, SHE organogram, objectives and targets.

Continuous improvement.

  • Investigate problems and analyse the root causes.
  • Implement and monitor lasting solutions to solve problems.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts.
Quality Assurance

  • In conjunction with Quality Manager ensure SHE team is working to ISO 9001:2015 procedures.
Communication & Meetings

  • Lead or proactively participate in operational meetings.
Staff Development/Training/Coaching

Team Planning Meeting on a weekly basis for:

  • progress made against key metrics;
- holding team accountable;
- sharing of knowledge;
- team development.

Annual performance reviews conducted for all subordinates and any workshop evaluations that are conducted.

Complete team "Talent Assessment "and develop Personal Development Plans (PDP's) (with the help from HR).

Personal Development

  • Develop personal development plan and commitment to key outcomes of the plan.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:


Qualifications:

Post NQF Level 4 Qualification in Safety Management.

Excellent understanding of production processes throughout the business.

Excellent understanding of key measurement and metrics.

Very good computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Browser), STRUMIS & Social Media.

Report writing skills.

Planning skills - ability to interpret and analyse the sections key indicators.

Prioritising skills - ability to identify critical areas or priorities and to schedule work accordingly.


Coordination skills - ability to organise resources (people and other) in order to implement the plans and meet the objectives.
