    Scientist/Engineer: Fuel Cell MEA Manufacturing R&D

    Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Scientist/Engineer to join our team at Mintek, focused on the development of fuel cell membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) for high-volume production.

    About the Role:

    The successful candidate will form part of a team developing fuel cell MEAs, leading to product development and manufacturing activities. Key areas of focus include MEA preparation through roll-to-roll coating, research into new ink formulations, performance testing, and pilot production of MEA and fuel cell/electrolyser catalysts products.

    Responsibilities:

    • Contribute to the development of methods for MEA preparation through roll-to-roll coating.
    • Undertake research to develop new ink formulations for high-volume MEA production.
    • Conduct MEA and stack performance testing.
    • Pilot production of certain MEA and fuel cell/electrolyser catalysts products.
    • Ensure timely and budget-efficient execution of projects.
    • Adhere strictly to SHEQ procedures and maintain overall technical efficiency.
    • Participate in training, guidance, and motivation of junior staff, as well as team debates and technical decisions.
    • Produce professional reports, papers, and presentations at local and international conferences.
    • Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialisation.
    • Stay up-to-date with relevant technology and business developments.
    • Demonstrate Mintek's values and vision through behaviour.

    Requirements:

    • MSc/MEng in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
    • 2-3 years' experience in PEMFC &/PEMWE electrocatalyst and MEA development, preparation, fabrication, characterisation, and testing methodologies.
    • Computer literacy is required.
    • Able to work effectively within a team.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills.
    • Attention to detail and ability to follow up and take initiative.
