Geology - Engineering

Primary Position Purpose

  • Engineering Geology specialist for the site team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Geology specialist for the site team, to be fulltime in Lesotho during excavation of the Drill and blast and TBM waterway tunnels, shafts, gate shaft gallery, Lake tap and access adits and intake tunnels.
  • Oversee and conduct geological mapping, evaluation of excavation & rock conditions, and record keeping for the works
  • Review and prepare asbuilt geological drawings for tunnels, shafts, access adits, tunnel and access adit portals
  • Lead geology team on site
  • Oversee subsurface investigation at client's lake tap barrage drilling and review subsurface investigation reports and sampling, logging and geology data interpretation
  • Technical support to site team during excavation
  • Mentoring junior geologists

Recommended Qualifications, Skills And Experience

  • Should have at least ten (10) years' involvement in the investigation, design and construction of excavations, tunnels and associated works, including tunnels in hard rock.
  • Must have a degree in Engineering Geology or equivalent, and have Professionally Registered Status (SACNASP, or approved equivalent).
  • Preferably familiar with NATM in terms of tunnel geological assessment during excavation and instrumentation and monitoring systems and data interpretation
  • Must be familiar with advanced tunnel geological software and systems

Interpersonal Skills

  • Adventurous personality (i.e. enjoys fieldwork in remote locations).
  • Available to undertake fieldwork assignments for extended periods.
  • Independent worker.
