Material Planner:

    Purpose of Role


The purpose of the materials planner is to ensure the timely and efficient availability of all materials required for operational activities across the portfolio of wind farms in South Africa.

The materials planner will also be responsible for ensuring the safe and correct storage of spares in the central warehouse, as well the management of the distribution of materials to and from sites.


Key Responsibilities [Key Performance Areas]

  • Responsible for responding to the freight forwarders with signed clearing instruction for all imports and coordinating the deliveries to Site or Central Warehouse.
  • Ensuring that all sites receive and update the Shipment Registers for incoming shipments as well as collaborating with the Site Administrators to upload all documentation on Share Point.
  • Coordinating Air Freight Shipment Requests with the Spare Parts Manager to ensure all checks have been verified and we have explored the local purchasing market in conjunction with the Procurement Manager before placing the Purchase Order on SAP/JDE
  • Responsible for managing the inventory of materials, ensuring an adequate supply while minimizing excess or obsolete stock. This involves monitoring stock levels, supporting the demands planner process, and coordinating with suppliers to maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Oversee the transportation and logistics of materials in South Africa, ensuring efficient and costeffective delivery. Coordinating with logistics providers and tracking the movement of materials to confirm delivery.
  • Monitor and track all sea and air shipments as well as updating the Shipment Register for Acciona and Nordex on share point.
  • Supporting the Spare Parts Manager with organizing and sorting of defective materials and arranging the returns to Spain or Germany by coordinating with the Freight Forwarders the entire Export Process as well as liaising with the Procurement Manager the possibility to repair them locally.
  • Attending all project related meetings pertaining to spares and tools and ensuring these are timeously delivered.
  • Ensuring that all stock received into the central warehouse is receipted in SAP/JDE 24 hours after receiving the signed Packing List from the 3PL Supplier.
  • Ensuring that all stock sent to Sites is transferred from the central warehouse to the Site in JDE/SAP before the stock is collected by the transporter.
  • Responsible for ensuring that stock on hand and open purchase orders are verified before placing any Purchase Orders on SAP/JDE for Ocean Shipment Requests.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all warehouses are complying with HSE Regulations and coordinating this process with the Site Managers & Site Admins and the 3PL Operations Manager.
  • Collaborating and coordinating the full cycle of the tools register for all sites and Central Warehouse as well as arranging calibrations and maintenance thereof.
  • Ensure that the P.E Warehouse receiving, and dispatch area is always organized.
  • Support and suggest effective management of inbound & outbound flow of inventory in the P.E Warehouse
  • Responsible for all stock taking at the Central Warehouse (Quarterly and Bi-Weekly)
  • Assist with any Ad-Hoc duties that may be requested by your Line Manager

Skills / Competencies

  • Technical experience required.
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
  • Very good communication and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work with a team that come from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Willingness to go on extended business trips within SA.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and have a cando approach when executing tasks.

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Relevant Degree/Diploma in Logistics or Supply Chain management
  • Valid Driver Licence
  • SAP_ERP and JDE Experience
  • Office suite professional experience in Word and Excel
  • Technical background in materials handling, transportation, and warehousing.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in material handling, Export & Import, and transportation management
