QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES:


a. Qualifications (typical):

i. Bachelors Degree/Diploma in Accountancy (BCom or CIMA preferred), or
ii. Bachelors Degree/Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction
Management, or a similar field.


b


Experience:

i. Previous experience (2-3 years) managing project accounting and/or cost
estimator related services
ii. Experience with costing reporting
iii. Experience managing budgets (analysis, set-up and budget control)
iv. Previous experience working with tenders.
v. Proficient with computer estimation software

Knowledge required:

i. Knowledge of the costing environment
ii. Exposure and knowledge of an accounting system (preferably MS Dynamics)
iii. An understanding of health & safety regulations and quality standards

Skills:

i. Ability to work on multiple projects at any given time
ii. Detailed analytical and mathematical skills in order to analyse budgets and
costs
iii. Planning skills in order to plan and forecast project budgets
iv. Sound written and verbal communication skills for submission of reports, and
communication with project teams, clients, suppliers, contractors and other
relevant authorities
v. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
vi. Able to work to tight deadlines

  • DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluate and understand project and costing requirements.
  • Create and develop cost templates/spread sheets/worksheets and userfriendly
financial models.

  • Identifying and quantifying all cost factors involved in the project
  • Using computer software to calculate cost estimates.
  • Populate tender and proposal templates contractors pack for new projects.
  • Design and development of new control systems, as well as modifications to
exiting systems

  • Recommend potential ways to reduce costs.
  • Project budget creation and management in line with contractual requirements
  • Preparation of monthend management packs and variance reports with
recommendations and corrective actions as required

  • Monitoring of costs and completing cost calculations
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and quality standards
  • Ensure job costing/WIP reports conform to agreed prices
  • Develop a system for tracking major cost drivers.
  • Assist the FD in arranging and preparing for project audits.
