Orion Hotels & Resorts (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd seeks a competent and experienced Lodge General Manager to join our dynamic team and our beautiful Game Lodge situated in Kromdraai, just outside Bela-Bela in the Limpopo Province.

Core Responsibility:


The Lodge General Manager will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management and operations of the Game Lodge, including but not limited to, guest satisfaction, stock control, staff management, putting control measures in place and cash flow management.


Core Competencies:


  • Monitoring of all costs (must be inline with company and industry standards)
  • Management of debtors
  • Implementing adequate controls to optimise operations.
  • Following up on all potential sales
  • Cash flow planning and management
  • Coordination of current projects
  • Compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures and policies of the Company
  • General Maintenance of the Property, including vehicles
  • Manage service levels to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Responding timeously to guest complaints and requests to ensure that all are resolved satisfactorily.
  • Be visible and on the floor at all busy times.
  • Staff scheduling, limiting the use of casuals and overtime.
  • Carrying out disciplinary procedures, if and when necessary
  • Submitting reports and providing feedback, as and when requested by Management.
  • General Administration associated with the Roles.

10 Mission Critical Success Tasks of the Lodge General Manager:

  • Daily review & records of staff, HOD performance plus HOD one on ones
  • Empirical Indicators:
  • Perform a Daily Personnel audit on a minimum of 2 (two) staff files.
  • Staff files in order, as per standard and all documents filed in correct space in individual personnel file.
  • Signed UPDATED job description (remove old / outdated ones)
  • UPDATED Code of conduct, signed.
  • Updated & signed NEW Leave policy.
  • UPDATED Annual leave planning.
  • Records of onthejob training recorded on file.
  • Daily follow up on Performance Management of HOD's related to RED flagging in coaching (tracking progress)
  • Daily follow up on allocated HOD task execution
  • Planning for Monthly OneonOnes with HOD's make appointments on a daily basis.
  • Oneonone's documented and recorded in files.
  • Staff rosters signed off.
  • Attendance Register maintained and up to date.
  • Daily task list for oneonones and HOD
  • Daily morning meeting with action points and minutes
  • Debtors Management
  • Review debtors list (late and / or overdue)
  • Phone & action high & late debtors together with relevant salesperson (whoever brought the Business in)
  • Together with CEO decide on legal action, where appropriate
  • Creditors Management
  • Review Creditors list
  • Make contact and agree on payment arrangements with pressure creditors.
  • Ensure all critical suppliers are paid (telephone, electricity, internet, rent, M&M fees, rates, levies)
  • No Supplier accounts to be opened. Purchases are strictly COD.
  • Night Audit & Daily Banking
  • Review every line item.
  • Check point of sale cash ups
  • Randomly interrogate lines.
  • Sign off.
  • All cash banked.
  • Night Audit packs to be sent to Head Office before 10am daily. Accounts processes and produces monthly management account.
  • Daily review & follow up on outstanding potential sales calls, reservations
  • Review Sales Rep call sheet
  • Personally assist in closing deals to the value of over R30, thirty thousand rand)
  • Daily review & response to all customer feedback / E-Guest Survey
  • E-Guest / Hello Peter / Trip advisor / OTA's
  • Feedback, make personal contact with unhappy clients.
  • Feedback report to be sent to Head Office
  • On the floor during peak trading times (Breakfast / Lunches / Dinners / Functions / Guest interaction essential)
  • Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner / Functions
  • Guest interaction imperative
  • Bar Imprest system / Daily checking
  • Sign off each replenishment.
  • Check that Bar Imprest balances to the float.
  • Feedback & Action on site visit reports
  • Daily progress log
  • Lodge General Manager's working hours
  • Lodge General Manager to work when most busy therefore "off" times are from Sunday afternoon including Mondays or as discussed and agreed to when quiet with

Qualifications & Experience required:


  • Hotel School Qualification with at least 5 (five) years of relevant experience as a Lodge General Manager
