A Medical Skin Care and Cosmetic group is in search of a Research and Development Manager with excellent communication skills and high ethical standards, who is an organised and an innovative thinker. The purpose of the role is to manage the R&D team, and the development of current and new products. PHD qualification in Chemical/ Engineering / Chemistry / Genetics / Biochemistry/Biotechnology preferred. Based in Gauteng, Centurion region.

Requirements:


  • PHD/Masters BEng Chemical Engineering or
  • PHD/Masters BSc Chemistry/Genetics/Biotechnology/Biochemistry
  • Minimum 1 year experience in managing team in R&D environment.
  • Previous experience in medical/skin rejuvenation industry will be an advantage.
  • Computer literate
  • Attention to detail and effective time management.

Duties:


  • Management of R&D team
  • Research actives/ingredients/materials for new products together with R&D team
  • Develop new products as per customer or in house needs and briefs
  • Drive R&D formulations and DNA team to ensure all milestones and objectives are met within deadlines.
  • Research, conceptualise and formulate new cosmetic products and carrier technologies, taking chemical and biochemical aspects into account.
  • Work closely with Scientific Director to materialise abstract ideas and propose experimental protocols to validate proof of concept.
  • Execute experimental tests followed by the analysis and interpretation of results within agreed timescales.
  • Form part of team patenting and trademarking novel technologies.
  • Stay abreast of latest trends regarding skin care advances and novel carrier technologies and present findings to R&D team on a regular basis.
  • Ensure compliance to the QMS by R&D team, and train R&D team in an ongoing manner to ensure adherence to SOPs and PQAs for audit readiness in accordance to ISO 2271
  • Meet, strategise and liaise with thirdparty clients regarding new product development.
  • Ensure compliance to all regulations pertaining to each country of registration in terms of ingredient safety and labelling requirements.
  • Work with safety assessors/consultants with the assessment of novel ingredient to ensure compliance.
  • Manage Product Information Files and ensure all information is updated.
  • Facilitate and assist training and implementation of GMP with lab staff.
  • Resolve R&D related CAPAs/nonconformities.
  • Compile product information for training manuals, marketing materials and package inserts.
  • Ensure product manufacturing training so that scale up operations run smoothly and manufacturing processes are fully aligned with development procedures.
  • Continuous process improvement.
  • Conducting all tests and monitoring as needed (stability, patch).
  • Offer technical and scientific R&D support in terms of client queries, concerns, complaints and requests.
  • Present work to numerous players: existing clients, prospective clients, members of the media, directly to consumers, therapists and training colleges, plastic surgeons, and potential international distributors at inhouse arrange events as well as industry conferences and seminars.
