Minimum Requirements:


  • A Masters degree in science education or educational psychology
  • A PhD in a field relevant to student learning and student support would be advantageous
  • Four to five years of experience in working with and supporting students in a university
environment

  • Evidence of coaching or mentoring experience
  • A teaching qualification (B Ed, PGCE or PG Dip HE) would be an advantage

Key Competencies:


  • Solid understanding of student learning processes and barriers to access
  • Experience in mentoring and the training mentors and/or interns
  • Workshop facilitation skills

Duties:


  • Career and curriculum guidance (oneonone consultations and groups)
  • Designing and facilitating workshops and programmes to help students develop academic,
vocational, motivating and personal growth plans for academic success in the science

faculty.

  • Identifying common barriers to learning and academic success and designing courses
and/or workshops to help student overcome these barriers.

  • Implementing additional support structures for students in the faculty of science.
  • Working collaboratively with academics, other members of the student support team,
members of the Faculty registrar's office, and student representatives to monitor and

support student progress.

  • Selecting, training, supporting and debriefing peer mentors in a facultywide peer
mentorship programme.

  • Coordinate with relevant university and faculty structures to design and facilitate student
welcome and induction events and induction resources.
