Introduction


Accurately control and process financial information and prepare reinsurance financial reports and analysis to enable business processes in respect of reinsurance accounting and manage a team of reinsurance accountants and be able to review, guide and assist where necessary while serving as a custodian for controls implemented on reinsurance accounting across the non-life license.


Role Purpose

Requirements:


  • Degree in Financial Management or Accounting
  • At least 5+ years' experience in accounting and reporting
  • At least 5+ years experience in reinsurance accounting

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Management of the reinsurance accounting function for Guardrisk Insurance cell captive & Guardrisk General Insurance (by portfolio of clients allocated).
  • Serves as an advisor to the client accounting team for reinsurance challenges, structural setup and other reinsurance matters which impact the client account team
  • Manage and coordinate reporting into divisional heads for month end reporting
  • Serve as back up accountant in absence of reinsurance accounts for financial month end
  • Oversee and manage the nonproportional claims accounting process, including reporting to divisional heads and/other
  • Maintain control of the reinsurance accounting environment by:
  • Ensuring regular interaction with portfolio managers on all reinsurerance matters
  • Reviewing the nonlife reinsurance balance sheet and associated reconciliations
  • Reviewing the nonlife reinsurance accounts prior to submissions
  • Serving as support and backup for reinsurance accountants and/ portfolio accountants where necessary
  • Implementing control measures as required for process optimisation
  • Serve as the custodian for all audit engagements
  • Provide authoritative, expertise and advice to clients in respect of reporting requirements
  • Facilitate client engagements specific to reinsurance accounting and reporting with clients including client reporting
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients
  • Ensure the reinsurance accounting team delivers on service level agreements made with client and ensure appropriate processes are in place to deliver per clients expectations
  • Make recommendations to improvement client service within area of responsibility
  • Build and maintain relationships with reinsurance brokers and/ reinsurers
  • Take ownership for driving career development and team development
  • Implement and provide feedback on the effectiveness of financial policy, practice and procedures preventing illegal, unethical or improper conduct
