Job Advert Summary:

The eResearch Knowledge Centre (eRKC) within the HSRC employs a group of practitioners and specialists in the areas of information services, geospatial analytics and digital curation who provide knowledge services to enhance the HSRC's research capability.

The eRKC is looking to appoint a suitably qualified professional as an Inter-Library Loan Consultant.

The main responsibilities of this position are to support and supplement the library collection in pursuit of meeting the information needs of researchers.

The Inter-Library Loan (ILL) Services is a cooperative arrangement amongst libraries whereby books and other library materials may be loaned from one library on behalf of their patrons.

The service is fee-based, with either local or international libraries depending on the availability of the resource.

It is imperative for the person responsible for this service to understand the rules that govern the services and relations with other participating libraries.

It is also crucial for the Inter-Library Loan Consultant to know which categories of the library collection are eligible for loan to other libraries.

Minimum Requirements:

Requirements:

Degree in Information Studies / equivalent degree with at least 5 years' experience in the field of librarianship.
Experience in Interlibrary loan (ILL) services.
Solid knowledge and experience in the use of the Request System, OCLC (International ILL).
Knowledge of World Share Management System (WMS) and information searching skills.
Working knowledge of MS Office.
Proficiency in speaking and writing English.
Good communication skills
Customer service oriented.
Ability to work well in a team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the
key responsibilities for the Inter

Library Loan Consultant position:
Accurate and timely processing of the interlibrary loans' requests by sourcing availability of information resources via South African Interlibrary Loan or via OCLC (International ILL)
Track status of requests to borrow and/or lend materials; receives and records receipt of borrowed materials; labels materials borrowed through ILL as such.
Monitor status of materials requested via system.
Manage lending of library materials to other ILL libraries.
Monitor status of all materials borrowed via interlibrary loans.
Provide support to other functions in the library as and when required such as front desk services, information consultancy, etc.
