Educator - Sanccob Cape Town - SANCCOB
Description
The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) seeks to employ a full-time Educator to be based at its Cape Town centre in Table View.
TheEducator will be responsible for the following duties (among others):
Education and Awareness functions:
- Offering high quality educational tours and programmes to onsite and offsite schools/groups
- Conducting informative and interactive onsite tours of the SANCCOB facility
- Organising/hosting/representing education oriented programmes/events which are either hosted by SANCCOB or other affiliated organisations
- Hosting informative online lessons with local and international audiences through various platforms
- Managing the adult education programmes
- Ensuring the children education programmes run smoothly
- Ensure that information relayed in all programmes is accurate, current and updated regularly
- Communicating and maintaining a positive relationship with members of the general public, conservation organisations and other stakeholders in a manner that upholds SANCCOB's professional standards and image
- Ensuring the standard for all education programmes are conducted at a high level and catered to each individual audience appropriately while adhering to SANCCOB's main aims and goals
- Travelling to underresourced and vulnerable areas and engaging with learners/community members/public, and implementing exciting education and awareness programmes, including but not limited to, working with learners and individuals who are:
- Disabled
- Chronically ill
- Under resourced
- Vulnerable
- Other learners/individuals with special education needs
Administrative functions:
- Duties relating to management of the merchandise shop, including stock takes, daily cashups, stock and cash control, and general sales
- Sourcing new eco
- Management of the online shop including ensuring orders are timeously shipped, queries are attended to and stock is loaded correctly
- Recruiting, booking and hosting school groups including online lessons
- Promoting, creating and coordinating education donations and other income streams, as and when required
- Coordinating logistics for programmes according to programme specifications (busses, lunches, etc.)
- Assisting with budget management
- Prospecting for new income opportunities
- Produce monthly reports and statistics
- Ensuring that the Education Centre and Education Office are organised, neat and clean
- Ensuring safety, cleanliness and tidiness of apparatus and resources
- Ensuring that education materials are accurate, uptodate, and printed professionally
- Assisting in managing inventories of the education department equipment and ensuring that systems are in place to take care of the equipment
- Managing the vending machine by working closely with the owners
- Driving responsibilities
- Training education interns and volunteers
- Ensuring that all assigned administrative functions are timeously completed, accurate and complete
Other functions:
- Performing any other tasks necessary for the conduct of the employer's business, as the employer may from time to time direct

The Educator must meet the following criteria:
- At least three years of administration skills and experience
- Tertiary qualification in teaching/education or nature conservation qualification or biology or zoology
- Experience and exposure to working for an NGO, NPO, or NPC in South Africa
- Environmental education experience
- Experience in sharing knowledge and information to different audiences
- Sound knowledge and experience in teaching/education, facilitation, and programme management
- Peopleoriented; understands people and comfortable in cultivating and managing stakeholder relationships
- Customerservice driven
- Attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Articulate ability to present a concept to motivate action
- Must be deadline and target driven
- Must be organised and proactive
- Result driven in a team environment, innovative, passionate and commitment to the team and the cause
- Ability to influence and inspire others
- Financially literate and comfortable to work with budgets and present financial information
- Experience with online communication tools
- Knowledge and experience of MS Office
- South African citizen or with permanent residency or valid work permit
- Own vehicle and valid driver's license
Requirements:
