AISJ maintains strong
child protection policies & procedures, this ensures that our students can pursue their education in a safe, secure, and caring environment.

All faculty and staff are required to undergo criminal background checks, attend annual training sessions and sign a safeguarding agreement.


POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide preventive health services to facilitate the student's optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development.

Identify health-related challenges and provide such services as case finding, health education, referring and care to help prevent serious health problems.

Support the education process by working to assure the health of the students.





MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

WORK EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience
  • Working experience in a school or academic institution will be an added advantage.
  • Understanding of Child Protection Laws and practices
  • Exposure in international institutions or organizations advantageous
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices underlying professional nursing, the principles and practices underlying the special field of school health, the current trends in nursing, and of literature in the field of school health and organization and administration of other cooperating agencies.
  • Broadbased nursing competency and knowledge including school nursing or community experience, public health education, and epidemiology.
  • Experience in occupational health and some pediatrics training or other relevant experience
  • International experience and cultural sensitivity with good communication skills at all levels




MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:


  • Matric or Grade 1
  • Nursing Diploma or Degree
  • Registered Nurse
  • First Aid/CPR certification is required.
  • Computer literacy

REQUIRED SKILLS:


  • Ability to detect and diagnose illnesses.
  • Basic psychology and child welfare in general.
  • Empathy and a strong sense of maintaining dignity.
  • Processing personal data and keeping it confidential.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong sense of emotional intelligence.
  • Teamwork coordination.
  • Ability to produce and present reports.

REQUIRED BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES:


  • Strong interest in working with elementary and middle school age students, and an ability to relate with children in this age group.
  • Display a cheerful, relaxed, respectful, and pleasing personality when working.
  • Highly organised and capable of organising others.
  • Multilingual with excellent command of the English language, both written and oral.
  • Computer skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to pick trends.
  • An amicable and engaging personality.
  • Charismatic and confident communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Maturity, empathy, and professionalism in dealing with parents, students, and faculty.
  • Analytical thinking and ability to detect irregularities.
  • Ability to deal with special needs children.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Promote and protect the optimal health of schoolage children.
  • Provide health assessments.
  • Obtain and analyse a health history.
  • Screen and evaluate findings of deficits in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, etc.
  • Observe children for development and health patterns in making nursing assessments.
  • Identify and follow up on abnormal health findings.
  • Develop and implement a student health plan.
  • Interpret the health status of students to parents and school personnel.
  • Initiate referrals to parents, school personnel, or community health resources for intervention, remediation, and followthrough.
