The company's operations include copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, and precious metals mining.


The Role

Responsibilities

  • Manages, guides, and directs project teams and activities to achieve efficient, costeffective, timely, and highquality delivery of knowledge bases, impact assessments and management plans for operational capital projects.
  • Performs the role of Project Manager / Team Leader and Environment and Social Performance technical expert on projects.
  • Develops and manages good and effective relationships technical leads, SMEs and Capital project leads, including at regional and Copper department level.
  • Develops clear scopes for ESIAs and specialist studies and manages the consultant selection, contracting and management processes, including ongoing quality assurance.
  • Prepares and / or reviews project technical reports and other outputs with quality assurance.
  • Manages internal sign off and approval processes with leadership, technical functions, legal and compliance.
  • Coordinates and supervises the work of other project colleagues and experts, including managing relevant ESIA consultant and reviewers.
  • Undertakes activities to build the capacity of local and regional staff.
  • Prepare Environmental and Social Assessment (ESIA) and its respective Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for the operation to ensure the socioenvironmental sustainability of its different components.
  • Identify key impacts, risk and opportunities associated with the project to inform the development of ESIA scopes and focus areas.
  • Oversee development of an integrated environmental and social Area of Influence.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and propose measures to prevent, control, mitigate, restore and/or compensate the potential environmental and social impacts of the project so that the project complies with the company, national, international standards, and external commitments.
  • Ensure that management plans and other instruments detailing environmental and social requirements, in particular to guide and influence the final design of the project and its components, including recommendations for changes to the project design as well as specific activities to be taken by contractors and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate and manage any field activities related to Project study/studies and Permitting (exploration drilling, sampling, surveying, water monitoring, etc.) with Project team and Community Engagement and Communications Team to ensure engagement and communications are carried out as required.
  • Plan and oversee a consultation/stakeholder engagement plan, including an analysis of interested and affected parties, detailing documentation requirements, and dissemination of information about the project (including nontechnical summaries and mechanisms for community participation).
  • Support the project in carrying out meaningful consultations.
  • Manage internal schedule for Project reviews preparation.
  • Overseeing E&S contribution to Project report chapters for each stage gate and other relevant reviews.
  • Responsible for receiving feedback from Project reviewers and Investment Committee and developing action plans to close any identified gaps and address weaknesses / implement improvement in ongoing studies.
  • Manage and report progress against action plan to overall Project Study Lead.

The Requirements

  • Fluency in English mandatory. Additional language abilities such as French is advantageous.
  • Master's degree in Environmental or Social Science (a relevant technical discipline (Environmental Science and Management, Biosciences, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Applied Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Science, Political Science, Geography / Social Geography).
  • At least 12 years overall relevant experience in the field.
  • 3 years' experience managing or directing capital projects in the extractive industry in developing countries.
  • Project management experience is mandatory.
  • Strong technical knowledge in relevant areas such as Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of complex and large infrastructure projects, environmental and social studies, environmental management, environmental planning.
  • Excellent technical writing skills in English (mandatory).
  • Experience in preparing reports, proposals, and/or publications of international standard.
  • Proficient in use of computer software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) to produce professional looking docum
