Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement strategies for maintaining and enhancing the gardens and green spaces on our cruise ships, ensuring they remain a highlight of the crew's life at sea.
- Select and source plants, flowers, and other greenery that will thrive in the unique conditions of a cruise ship environment, considering factors such as temperature, humidity, and light exposure.
- Monitor and maintain the health of all plants, including watering, fertilizing, and pest control, using effective methods to prevent disease and promote healthy growth.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure the gardens and green spaces are seamlessly integrated into the overall ship design and operations, contributing to a cohesive and enjoyable onboard experience.
- Train and supervise a team of gardeners and other crew members in proper horticultural techniques, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Maintain detailed records of all plants and their care, as well as budget and supply management, providing valuable insights for future planning and decision-making.
- Continuously seek out new and innovative ideas for enhancing the beauty and functionality of our gardens and green spaces, staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Horticulture or a related field, demonstrating a strong foundation in plant biology, ecology, and horticultural principles.
- Proven experience in horticulture, preferably in a maritime or cruise ship setting, showcasing adaptability and a willingness to learn in dynamic environments.
- Extensive knowledge of plants, flowers, and gardening techniques, enabling informed decisions about plant selection, care, and maintenance.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, allowing for efficient coordination of tasks, resources, and personnel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective collaboration with colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work well in a team and independently, leveraging strengths in both areas to drive results and achieve goals.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, ensuring the well-being of the crew and the quality of the gardens.
- Familiarity with budget and supply management, making informed decisions about resource allocation and procurement.
- Passion for horticulture and a creative eye for design, driving innovation and excellence in the creation and maintenance of our gardens and green spaces.
