    Corporate Affairs Director Role

    A well-established FMCG company seeks a Corporate Affairs Director to evaluate the operational landscape in South Africa. This involves forecasting changes that may pose commercial risks or present competitive opportunities, devising and executing strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on advantages. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the company's business operations, commercial strategies, and programs, as well as insight into the social, economic, political, and regulatory context.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Evaluate and assess changes to the company's Operating Environment, communicating anticipated changes to senior management and stakeholders.
    • Develop and implement effective strategies and programs to shape the Operating Environment, minimizing commercial risk and securing competitive advantage.
    • Direct the development of political, regulatory, and media maps identifying influential groups shaping public and government policy and opinion in South Africa and relevant markets.
    • Cultivate relationships with stakeholders and maintain a solid stakeholder map (national and supra-national), engaging in industry associations and other relevant bodies.
    • Formulate positions and views on public issues impacting the company's operating environment, developing engagement strategies for fair and accurate representation.
    • Recruit, train, motivate, and retain top-tier Corporate Affairs talent, achieving mission and objectives with highest quality standards.
    • Establish clear performance criteria and objectives for Public Relations consultants and service providers, ensuring alignment with business goals and regular assessment against criteria and objectives.
    • Develop and implement community investment programs in South Africa in accordance with company guidelines.

    Additional Skills Required

    • Anticipate and shape changes in the operating environment creating commercial risk and competitive opportunity for the company in the South Africa cluster.
    • Develop and implement strategies and programs responsibly shaping the operating environment, focusing on commercial risk mitigation and competitive advantage.
    • Manage and monitor South Africa's regulatory environment, engaging with local authorities as necessary.
    • Cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the social, economic, political, and regulatory environment, including special interest groups, organizations, and media shaping public opinion in the markets.

    Desired Experience & Qualification

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    • Bachelor's degree from a recognized university or equivalent.
    • At least 5 years of progressive experience in Corporate Affairs, managing regulatory, public affairs, and communications.
    • Previous exposure to highly regulated industries such as tobacco, pharmaceuticals, or similar sectors is preferred.
    • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of other languages is advantageous.
    • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office. Familiarity with SAP is an added advantage.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively.
    • Proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
    • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.
