    Job Title:

    Lecturer/Veterinary Nurse in Reproductive Health

    About the Position:

    We are seeking a highly qualified individual to fill a Lecturer/Veterinary Nurse position in our Department of Veterinary Science. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students in reproductive health across different species.

    Main Responsibilities:

    1. Teaching and Training: Develop and deliver high-quality educational programs in reproductive health for undergraduate and postgraduate students, including lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions.
    2. Clinical Service: Provide clinical service at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, including participation in a 24-hour service.
    3. Research and Publication: Conduct research and publish papers in scientific journals on topics related to reproductive health.
    4. Student Supervision: Supervise postgraduate students where appropriate.
    5. Industry Engagement: Engage with owners, breeders, farmers, and relevant industry stakeholders.
    6. Administrative Duties: Perform administrative and other duties as delegated by the Head of Department.

    Requirements:

    To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

    • Degree: A BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification.
    • Registration: Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) or registration within a reasonable timeframe.
    • Masters Program: Willingness to register for a Masters program – MMedVet degree (Gyn) or MSc veterinary science (with a focus on reproduction), and graduate in a reasonable time.
    • Experience: At least three years of veterinary clinical experience in reproduction (case log required).
    • Development: Evidence of ongoing professional development.

    Competencies:

    • Knowledge: Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary clinical work, especially in reproduction.
    • Research: Research interests aligned with the position.
    • PhD Commitment: Commitment to obtaining a PhD if not already held, within a reasonable timeframe.
    • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Software Proficiency: Proficiency with presentation, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

    Advantages:

    • Assisted Reproduction: Experience with assisted reproduction technologies, such as gamete cryopreservation.
    • IVF Support: Experience supporting clinical and research aspects of an IVF program.
    • Tertiary Teaching: Experience in tertiary teaching and mentoring.
    • Research Exposure: Exposure to research in relevant fields.

    Employment Details:

    The annual remuneration will depend on the level of appointment, according to UP policy guidelines. UP offers subscriptions to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical schemes, covering 50% of the monthly premiums.
