- Develop a comprehensive understanding of marine products to ensure safe navigation and handling of all types of marine claims.
- Nurture strong relationships with brokers, surveyors, and external service providers.
- Verify premium payments and outstanding amounts with credit control.
- Demonstrate a solid grasp of claim documents and policy contractual agreements.
- Gain a thorough understanding of Incoterms and Institute Cargo Clauses.
- Provide timely risk management insights to the Marine Claims Manager, Relationship Managers, and Underwriters.
- Collaborate with international and local reinsurers.
- Pursue third-party recoveries where prospects exist.
- Monitor diary follow-ups for recoveries.
- Work within a paperless environment, ensuring efficient filing and archiving.
- Offer general assistance and support to the claims team.
- Contribute to technology enhancements by improving data capture and recorded data sources, facilitating better reporting and minimizing costs.
- Mentor young team members interested in marine insurance.
- Authorize mandated payments (local and foreign exchange).
- Perform client checks within POPI parameters, including sanction and bridge checks.
- Build strong professional relationships with brokers, administrators, underwriting, and other stakeholders involved in the claims process.
- Deliver exceptional professional service to internal and external parties.
- Support audits by submitting files, ensuring seamless audit processes.
- Report claims exceeding R1 million to Management and R2 million to the Special Liability Unit.
- Matric/Grade 12 qualification.
- At least 5 years of experience in marine insurance claims.
- A basic understanding of the claims process.
