    Primary Purpose

    Responsible for designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines, APIs and data infrastructure. Ensures data reliability, quality and accessibility while optimizing performance and scalability.

    Technical Development and Programming

    • Develop, optimize and maintain scalable data pipelines and workflows using Python and SQL.
    • Design and develop APIs to enable seamless data integration between Snowflake and other platforms.
    • Optimize query performance in Snowflake and implement best practices for data processing.
    • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts and engineers to support analytics and reporting needs.
    • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workflows.
    • Ensure data security, compliance and governance standards are met.

    Data Pipeline Development and Optimization

    • Build, maintain and optimize ETL/ELT processes for structured and semi-structured data.
    • Automate data ingestion and transformation workflows for real-time and batch processing.
    • Monitor, troubleshoot and enhance pipeline performance and reliability.

    API Development and Data Integration

    • Design and develop APIs to facilitate data access and integration.
    • Develop event-driven architectures for real-time data streaming and processing.
    • Work with internal and external stakeholders to integrate third-party data sources via APIs.

    Data Management and Administration

    • Load data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL technologies.
    • Manage Snowflake environments, including role-based access control and cost optimization.
    • Design and implement data retention policies in collaboration with stakeholders.
    • Support data engineering best practices, documentation and process improvements.
    • Perform data cleansing and transformation processes to prepare raw data for analysis.
    • Design, build and develop data warehouses.
    • Enable data integration and migration across various systems, sources, databases and servers.
    • Develop and optimize ETL (extract, transform, load) processes to support analytics and reporting needs.

    Documentation and Process Improvement

    • Maintain clear and current documentation of data pipelines, APIs and architectural decisions.
    • Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency gains.
    • Support the development of standards and guidelines for data engineering practices.

    Data Governance and Compliance

    • Ensure data integrity, accuracy and consistency across systems.
    • Implement data quality checks, validations and anomaly detection.
    • Comply with industry regulations such as POPIA and GDPR.

    Data Reporting and Documentation

    • Assist in creating comprehensive data-related reports and documentation.
    • Ensure documentation is accurate, up-to-date and easily accessible for the team.
