    Description

    Job Summary

    We are seeking a highly skilled Technician to join our team at SGS Northam Eland. The successful candidate will be responsible for weighing prills using a micro-balance and recording the weights in the SLIMS system.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Log received samples into the SLIMS system using work orders from clients.
    • Print sample labels.
    • Ensure samples are sorted correctly before labeling and boxing the samples.
    • Follow all quality directives of the Department.
    • Weigh prills using a micro-balance and record the weights in the SLIMS system.
    • Lock prills away in the safe at the end of each shift.
    • Perform nickel sulphide leaches and/or other similar Wet Chemical techniques by accurately following written procedures.
    • Operate laboratory instrumentation, such as LECO analysers.
    • Bring any problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the Chemist.
    • Adhere to all quality, health and safety rules and regulations.
    • Maintain housekeeping in the receiving area and micro-balance room.
    • Comply with the Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
    • Record day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments.
    • Work in other areas and/or Divisions if required.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.

    Specific Authorities

    • Cease using equipment that may constitute a safety hazard or entry hazardous environments without necessary knowledge and protection.
    • Cease carrying out work affecting service quality and report situation to higher authority.
    • Initiate formal improvement requests when deviations occur or nonconformity is identified.

    Requirements

    • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
    • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
    • 3 years laboratory experience.
    • Competent in logging samples and working with CClas.
    • Able to perform various wet chemical techniques.
    • Lims administration and operation experience.
    • Experience in instrumentation, data collection, and reporting.

    Desirable Skills

    • Full understanding of the LIMS system.
    • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
    • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

    Estimated Salary

    R120,000 - R180,000 per annum.
