    Purpose of the position

    We are looking for a new Service Technician in Cape Town who will enhance customer operations and minimize downtime by ensuring all equipment and systems provided and serviced by Kalmar is efficiently and effectively maintained and repaired as required. Responsible for safety, security, quality and on time service execution through professional interaction with customers based on good knowledge of our customers' Installed base.

    Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Accountable for Customer satisfaction, quality workmanship and first time fixes
  • Where applicable, Supervising apprentices working on jobs, lead by example in good work practices/ safe work practices
  • Maintain and repair the latest cargo handling heavy equipment at customer facilities or Kalmar premises, including:
  • Planned maintenance

    Conducting repairs on breakdown

    Fault finding

    Contributing to effective and practices

  • Actively builds profitable Kalmar service business in the country by well planning work days and providing service at high quality and on time to customers by:
  • Actively building good customer relationships by professional behavior and customer- minded interaction

    Executing daily service jobs, properly signing in and out at the customer's site, securing the equipment for: repairs, preventive maintenance, warranty, inspections, refurbishments etc.

    Report any unsafe equipment (Service vehicle, Tooling, Equipment etc) to the relevant manager

    Reporting service work (during the day, at the end of each job)

  • Continuously learns about new Kalmar equipment
  • Provides sales leads on to relevant parties and other opportunities at the customer site
  • Keeps tools (vehicles and other required tools) and equipment serviced, up to date, maintained and accounted for
  • If applicable, Acts as backup for other Technicians
  • As per work agreement: weekend work (stand-by), shift work, overtime, remote travel
  • Close cooperation with customer service contacts, spare parts division etc
  • What you'll need to succeed

    Education

  • Relevant Mechanical or Electrical trade qualification eg diesel mechanic, mobile plant fitter, commercial marine mechanic, auto electrician, electrical fitter, industrial electrician
  • Minimum lower secondary high school (or equivalent)
  • Experience

  • 3+ years experience in similar role
  • Proven experience in unsupervised fault finding
  • Proven experience in testing & understanding hydraulic and electrical circuits/diagrams
  • Stripping and rebuilding mechanical components eg differential
  • Experience using email and ICT
  • Industrial/commercial heavy equipment background
  • ECU / PLC experience / exposure advantageous
  • Proven experience in efficiently executing service jobs
  • Knowledge and Competencies

  • In depth-knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems
  • Disconnect Reconnect restricted electrical license
