    Description

    Portfolio Analyst

    Purpose of Job:

    • Collaborate with senior team members to provide meaningful analysis and support for portfolio management.
    • Offer portfolio analytics services for discretionary managed clients.
    • Monitor and assess incumbent and current managers, alongside portfolio managers and investment research teams.
    • Understand client portfolio construction and products targeting various investment objectives.
    • Ensure portfolios are up-to-date on relevant systems and execute Portfolio Managers' instructions accurately and timely.
    • Analyze and monitor exposures and risks around these portfolios ongoing.
    • Provide support to the Portfolio Management team.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum bachelor's degree (FAIS recognized) or equivalent (B.Com., B.Bus.Sci, B.Sc. in Maths, Accounting, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, Physics).
    • Open to other tertiary qualifications depending on experience and quantitative abilities.

    Experience:

    • 3-5 years of relevant investments experience in a multi-manager environment.
    • Must be a FAIS compliant representative or work towards obtaining that status.

    Key Competencies:

    • Understanding of macroeconomics.
    • Portfolio construction and manager research experience beneficial.
    • Understanding of key risk, performance, and attribution concepts.
    • Safeguarding integrity of sensitive client data.
    • Dealing with large quantities of portfolio and market data.
    • Understanding of portfolio and instrument level information.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Problem-solving/solutions-focused ability and mindset.
    • Flexibility and adaptability ensuring delivery of outputs and maintaining high-quality standards.
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
    • Proficiency in Morningstar, Bloomberg, FactSet, and programming languages like R, Python, Matlab advantageous.

    Monthly/Daily Tasks:

    • Generating, interpreting, and analyzing various analyses useful to Portfolio Managers.
    • Client report back presentation generation and checking.
    • Communication with clients and responding to report queries.
    • Monthly and quarterly data retrieval, validation, reconciliation, analysis, and preparation.
    • Data interrogation and analysis.
    • Developing an understanding of the market, risks, and tools as well as systems used.
    • Aiding in the construction and monitoring of portfolios.
    • Understanding and regular monitoring of investment managers held in our products.
    • Developing an understanding of all portfolios worked on.
    • Client and internal report generation.
    • Checking reports generated by other analysts.
    • Interpreting and analyzing report results.

    Salary Range:$80,000 - $120,000 per year.
