Description
We are looking for a seasoned bulletin anchor editor to join our dynamic team of creatives. The successful incumbent will be responsible for delivering current affairs and unique news content.

This will also include story writing, prioritising stories for on-air, and covering breaking news for the station's listeners and target market.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • 5 years minimum experience.
  • Fluency in both English and Afrikaans.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Advanced knowledge of multimedia and social media tools, video, and digital platforms.
  • Relevant qualification in Journalism or equivalent.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to cope with the constant pressure of strict deadlines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the News and Broadcast Industry.
  • Be willing and flexible to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays as and when required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Sourcing and researching

  • Monitor and Approach multiple sources to gather, research, and verify (local, national, and international) newsworthy stories/content.
  • Develop and maintain a contact database.
  • Keep up to date with current affairs.
  • Ensure accuracy by verification of facts.
  • Provide briefs on selfinitiated stories being pursued.
  • Constantly keep up to date with previous bulletins.

News Compilation

  • Compile highquality bulletins that are locally focused, grammatically correct, balanced, relevant, and uptotheminute.
  • Coordination with Multimedia Journalists (online/field) for content.
  • Field resource management.
  • Work closely with a journalist to ensure that online content reflect onair content.
  • Select and reangle stories where applicable.
  • Check the quality, accuracy, language, and writing of all news items daily.
  • Ensure a logical running order of news items
  • Ensure that items are balanced in terms of local, national, and international priority, aimed at the target audience.
  • Submit bulletins for a final check to News Editor.
  • Exchange of sound and news with sister Station.

News presentation

  • Present news bulletins, weather and finance segments, and any breaking news in a professional, conversational, and easytounderstand manner, while maintaining the credibility of the story/bulletin at all times.
  • Ensure content is of high quality
  • Check the accuracy, language, writing, and legal compliance of all news items before filing
  • Proofread all stories.

Shift Continuity

  • Ensure continuity through the various news shifts
  • Assist the News Editor in diarising daily activities
  • Constant communication with colleagues
  • Delegation of stories to journalists
  • Ensure all relevant stories are followed up and passed on through the different shifts.

Team Participation

  • Maintain a good relationship with newsmakers, and various departmental and organisational spokespeople.
  • Attend news diary meetings daily.
  • Constant communication, interaction, and feedback with colleagues.
  • Coach and train junior staff.
  • Participates as a member of the news team.
  • Contributes positively to the news team and station.

General

  • Attend to general administrative duties
  • Assist in various areas of the news department.
  • Required to work shifts according to Shift Roster (including weekends)
  • Participate in station promotions and onair features as and when required
  • Assume editorial responsibilities and compiling of reports as and when required
  • See highimpact onair, website story, video, and social media mentions
  • Execute any tasks that may reasonably be expected.
