QC Inspector needed with extensive experience in fabrication and inspection of structural steel, plate work and mechanical equipment. Level 1 welding inspection; galvanizing inspection; verification of NDT's conducted; basic Strumis training.

Primary Purpose:

Work together with the production staff, sub-contractors, and suppliers to ensure the required project deadlines are met with the correct required quality requirements.

Conduct accurate 100% dimensional/ fit up inspections pre-welding and highlight any distorted, unacceptable assemblies not conforming to the approved drawings to the sub-contractors for repair and re-inspect.

Conduct 100% visual inspections on all welded assemblies.

100% visual inspection, including thickness, hardness and any additional testing specified on the approved QCP's on all painted, rubber lined, ceramic lined and galvanized items.

Ensure WIP data books are progressively completed by the sub-contractors and suppliers. Book and conduct all 3rd party inspections with our clients. At all-times maintain a good working relationship with all clients.


Job description / core competencies:
Using only approved QCP's, IFC detailed drawings / Client drawings for inspections. Unless instruction is given to proceed by the Quality Manager.


Ensure all assemblies are stamped with the correct assembly numbers / welder stamp numbers before assemblies' leaves the sub-contractors facility.


Conducting 100% visual inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1 Table (8.1) or Table if tubular) and 100% dimensional inspections in accordance with SANS 2001; CS 1/ company Detailed drawings / Client drawings; rejecting unacceptable materials/assemblies.

Conduct inspections according to section 8 of AWS D1.1, ASME and API codes, as applicable to the work-scopes.

Client liaising & booking of third party, client inspections for in-process and final releases.

Booking of NDT testing.

As-built drawings completed and redlined, filed into the data book progressively.


All revision drawings going to sub-contractors are picked up, taken to the sub-contractor and all previous revisions removed from their possession.

All items that have been released are signed off on the drawings and the Master DR

Ensuring that release notes are filled into the data books.

Quality Assurance

  • In conjunction with the Quality Manager ensure compliance to ISO 9001 procedures.
Consumable control

  • Ensure that the consumables used by the subcontractors are properly controlled, certified and kept in holding ovens.
Strumis Implementation

  • Use Strumis to create, check and compare that the release note and the items up for release is in fact correct. Scanning of all completed items into the loading process at corrosion facilities.
  • Ensure that all subcontractors use Strumis as per the subcontractors guidelines procedure.
SHEQ Management

  • Achieving of Annual Safety targets.
  • Adhere to company Health and Safety System, including training, maintenance, system compliance and checklists, learning and improvements from incidents.
Communication and meetings

  • Lead or proactively participate in meetings.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:


Qualifications:

Fabrication and Welding inspection (Visual and dimensional).

SAIW QC Level 1.

Grade 12.

Level 1 Welding inspectors.

Galvanizing inspectors.

Basic Strumis training.

Driver's License Code 8.

Experience

7 years' experience in fabrication and inspection of structural steel, plate work and mechanical equipment.

Visual inspection on welding & cleaning.

Witness and verification of trial assemblies.

Inspection on painting and galvanizing.

Inspection on ceramic lining and rubber lining.

Compiling of data books.

Verification of NDT's conducted.

Supplier management and visits.

Witnessing of test runs/ FAT tests as appropriate to work packages.

Proficient in MS Office, Word and Excel.

Able to read drawings (excellent).
