A bit about the role:

A global payments FinTech is seeking a Database Administrator to join their dynamic team.

The role will be based on-site in their offices in Johannesburg and will fall under the department of Group Technology - Digital and Platform.


Your daily adventures include:

Database Platform - Ensure that the databases are designed, deployed, and maintained as per defined Enterprise standards and requirements.

Ensure that the RPO and RTO goals are always met - Maintain acceptable performance levels across all databases.

Analyse and work with development teams to solve reported performance defects on time - Proactively support systems, and analyse existing/potential issues with deep dive into rdbms and/or related SW (GI, ASM, OS) - Automate day-to-day tasks wherever possible, implement shift-left and self-service practices to reduce human efforts spent on routine tasks - Work with peers to build and maintain Infrastructure as a code pipeline for provisioning database stacks - Understanding core concepts of oracle optimizer, statistics, and tracing related to performance - PL SQL coding ability for admin purposes, able to read/understand the code written by others - Ensure reported incidents are resolved as priority.

Participate and contribute to Root cause analysis and problem tickets that arise from incidents - Coordinate within the infrastructure team to deliver work appropriately and resolve any complex issues that require deeper analysis - Be a part of an out-of-office support roster on a rotational basis to be able to respond to and resolve any high-priority incidents - Maintain good relationships with other stakeholders and ensure appropriate communication on all important events - Provide technical support for internal and external clients on escalated issues - Evaluate any new features and products that best fit user cases and drive adoption of the features across the organisation - Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Change Management Raise changes and follow the business process for delivering those in prod systems Ensure inventory with configuration across the organization are up to date and all changes done reflected there without exclusions For internal changes collaborate with other involved teams, and make changes to the existing business processes for its optimization if required Incidents / planned/unplanned DR scenarios.

Involved in technical discussions with vendors/developers / app support Periodically do/plan DR activity for core PROD systems, automate such BAU activities Provide support for critical incidents in PROD systems during non-office hours in case of service breach for external clients What it takes to succeed: - 6-9 years of experience in the field of Oracle database administration - 2 years of experience in managing databases in AWS - 2 years of experience in handling postgres and mysql Mandatory technical skills: - Oracle 12c, 19c on Linux platforms, Oracle on AWS RDS and AWS EC2, RAC, ASM, Active Dataguard, RMAN, TDE, Partitioning, PL/SQL, Advanced performance tuning, Scripting, Rolling upgrades and patching, In-depth knowledge on AWS ecosystems such as VPC, Subnets, Security groups, ACLs, IAM, EC2, EBS options, Backups and Snapshots


Preferred:

  • OEM Cloud control administration, Other RDBMS such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL. NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB. Bamboo, GIT, Jira. Understanding of agile methodologies and Devops Ecosystem.
