The role of the Policy Lead contributes to positioning our company as a relevant and key actor in the African healthcare environment.

This role has the goal to develop, propose, drive and execute the actions that solidify the company's reputation and build relevance to the Company across Africa as a leading healthcare company through health policy activities.


Regarding policy, this person is expected to establish policy priorities within the company and leverage those with relevant external platforms impacting positively and shaping the environment in relevant disease areas in Africa.

Furthermore, the role incumbent will identify important win-win approaches with relevant stakeholders in the sense of a continuous improvement of patient access and care throughout public, access, and private environments.

Equipped with deep insights and experience from politics, public health, relevant public administration bodies, PR consultancies and business leadership, the Lead will provide the Company with the best advice on how to optimize its offer of treatment options in a sustainable manner.

The Lead's background, network and strategic mindset will allow for performing solid analysis and presenting proposals for solutions in a credible and trustworthy manner.

The Lead is also responsible for developing our ESG strategy together with the leadership team. Leveraging the ESG initiatives, and policy, the Lead will advance the vision of Organon.


A deep understanding of compliance and ethics codes is key to achieving the goals in a fully compliant way but also bringing onboard new opportunities for creating our reputation and image.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop policy strategy and execute policy initiatives aligned to the Company vision, values and strategy, with the understanding that policy is a critical tool for exploring opportunities and executing on imperatives.
  • Identify, map and engage all key stakeholders to better execute on key priorities.
  • Responsible for advocacy initiatives aligned with our narrative and guaranteeing the accomplishment of grants and donations policy including planning and executing policyrelated activities such as political meetings, round table discussions, seminars and conferences.
  • Liaise with and represent our Company interests in industry associations, relevant networks and clusters, creating and maintaining good relationships with key interest groups such as patients' organizations.
  • Align communication strategy to guarantee fulfillment of business priorities and reputation development externally from scientific communities to lay audience.
  • Scout, create and propose initiatives related to ESG with Global External Affairs area considering local needs and areas for development aligned with global directions.
  • Represent South Africa in the Global Council of Policy.
  • Active alignment with the areas of sales, marketing, medical and regulatory affairs (Cross Functional Team)
  • Responsible for reporting adverse experiences or events (AEs), adverse device events (ADEs), product quality complaints (PQCs) and other reportable information, customer feedback (CF), alleged counterfeiting, diversion and tampering (CDT) that they become aware of to the Designated Point of Contact (DPOC).

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience in health policy and political environments.
  • Not mandatory but as a differential, experience in working in a political organization, preferably in a political secretariat, parliament, ministry, governmental body, public affairs in a consulting company, NGO's, trade association, a pharmaceutical company or highly complex in government relationship sector. Should have a general understanding of legislation, government processes, and policies impacting the healthcare sectors.
  • Strong and sound ethical platform in line with our Company's core values.
  • Selfmotivated and able to work under pressure within volatile, ambiguous and complex environments.
  • Good prioritization skills and demonstrated ability to establish and manage strong partnerships and collaborations with various stakeholders as well as advise senior leadership and executives.
  • Strong leadership and engagement skills through direct and matrix teamwork developing a sense of collective ownership, speed and execution.

Education Minimum Requirements

  • Postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Public Health
  • Experience in multiple, diverse service functions simultaneously with strong supervisory and project management and team leadership skills;
  • Ability to work with various levels of personnel in a fastpaced environment;
  • Experience in compiling and managing budgets;
  • Experience in engaging and managing eternal stakeholders;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
