    Company Overview

    An international engineering company, Cochrane Global, is seeking a qualified and experienced structural steel design engineer.

    Responsibilities

    1. Reviews client technical documentation and requirements.
    2. Maintains project technical files.
    3. Controls subcontracted discipline engineering documents.
    4. Sets up and executes assigned engineering activities, such as detail design, verification, and studies relevant to any engineering topic associated with the discipline, pursuing objectives of sound engineering and design optimization in terms of costs, fabrication simplicity, and safety.
    5. Prepares design specifications.
    6. Develops studies and calculation notes for steel structures and structural steel buildings.
    7. Prepares MTO and BOQ.
    8. Prepares S.O.W. and technical specification for steel structure sub-contract.
    9. Prepares technical documentation for steel structure material requisition and assists the procurement department in technical evaluations.
    10. Controls manufacturer's shop drawings and connection calculation notes and details.
    11. Supervises/approves steel structure drawings issued by designers and draftsmen.
    12. Implements discipline follow-up activities.
    13. Implements field engineering activities.
    14. Contract administration, chair/steer site meetings, principal agent role, invoicing, and monthly reporting.

    Qualifications and Experience

    1. BSc/BEng/HND qualified civil and structural engineer.
    2. Registered candidates preferred.
    3. Ability to design in steel and RC.
    4. Previous design experience in formworks, falseworks, scaffolding, foundations, and ground supports, with some project management exposure.
    5. Good understanding of international loading codes (i.e., ASCE, BS-EN, SANS, SBC, IBC).
    6. 5 years of structural design experience essential.
    7. Ability to produce detailed calculations and drawings of structural elements.
    8. Proficient in AutoCAD, Prokon, and Revit.
    9. Experience with SolidWorks FEA analysis will be advantageous.
    10. Must be able to work independently.
