Safety Representative Job Description

We are seeking a responsible Safety Representative to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for compiling and maintaining accurate safety files, advising on safety topics, conducting risk assessments, and enforcing preventative measures to create a safe workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the development of OHS policies and programs by ensuring their implementation and maintenance.
• Provide guidance and instruction on various safety-related topics, including noise levels, use of machinery, and personal protective equipment.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments and enforce preventative measures to mitigate potential hazards and risks.
• Review and update existing policies and measures in accordance with changing legislation and regulations.
• Develop and deliver OHS training programs for employees and executives to enhance their knowledge and skills.
• Inspect premises and work areas to identify potential issues or non-conformities and take corrective action as necessary.
• Oversee installations, maintenance, and disposal of substances to ensure they are conducted safely and responsibly.
• Prevent unsafe acts or processes that may pose a risk to workers' health and well-being.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses to determine their causes and handle workers' compensation claims accordingly.
• Compile and maintain accurate records of occurrences, prepare reports, and provide statistical information to upper management.
• Conduct regular health and safety audits to identify potential hazards, risks, and dangers.

Job Specifications:

• Maintain up-to-date safety files and ensure their accuracy and completeness.
• Review the effectiveness of health and safety measures and make recommendations for improvement.
• Identify potential major incidents and examine their causes to prevent recurrence.
• Investigate complaints and resolve them promptly and fairly.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• A valid driver's license.
• Safety representative qualifications and certifications.
• 3-5 years of experience working in a safety environment.
