    Job Title: Health and Safety Officer

     

    Introduction:

    The primary objective of this role is to develop, implement, and enhance health and safety plans, programs, and procedures. This entails ensuring compliance with relevant Health and Safety Legislation.

     

    Duties & Responsibilities:

     

    • Techincal Key Performance Areas:
    • Report all incidents on site, prepare all necessary documentation, and facilitate incident investigations as required.
    • Support the development of OHS policies and programs.
    • Provide guidance and advice on various safety-related matters.
    • Conduct risk assessments, implement preventative measures, and review them regularly.
    • Perform regular site/section inspections and record them according to the safety officer's schedule.
    • Maintain an electronic document system.
    • Ensure that all policies are available and displayed on-site.
    • Comply with PPE requirements and ensure their procurement.
    • Organize morning meetings with employees to ensure safe completion of tasks for the day.
    • Ensure SHE Committee meetings are held.
    • Draft/review all Legal appointments, SOPs, and SWPs.
    • Recordkeeping of checklists, procedures, fitness medicals, training, daily safe declarations, etc.
    • Contractor management and approval of safety files.
    • Participate in or complete authority inspections/reports, training, incident investigation, and audits as required.
    • Arrange and schedule all SHE-related training on-site.
    • Monthly reporting on safety performance (leading and lagging indicators) and implementation of the company Safety Improvement Plan.

    Desired Experience & Qualification:

     

    • Matric certificate or equivalent.
    • SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent qualifications.
    • Sound knowledge of SHEQ legal requirements within the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 and Regulations.
    • High level of competence in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
    • A diploma/Degree would be advantageous.

     

    Experience:

    Three to five years of work experience as a Safety Officer.
