Description
A Business Manager will report directly into the Senior Business Manager.


Increase the client retailer's share of sales and penetration in their Own Brand products; maximizing the profitability of both the customer (Pick n Pay) and Daymon South Africa.

Responsible for the development and implementation of the Own Brand assortment based on category plans. Ensure the performance of each product is based on set goals, overall strategy and existing policies.


Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:

Duties, Responsibilities and Expected Contributions:
Pricing and negotiation including cost savings/tenders

Involved in space planning - planograms

Analytical interpretation ability

Strong understanding of category, role and strategy

RSM's, BM's - closer relationship (Role clarity)

Key accounts and relationship building strengths - driving Own Brand and Innovation

Building more strategic supplier relationships (supplier meetings, top-to-tops, strategy, sales performance, alignment)

Develop and source additional suppliers (local & import)

Focus on building stronger relationships with the commercial teams

Detailed category reviews and opportunity gaps

Reporting back to RSM's on product issues - Stock, Quality, Recalls, Supplier changes

Strategy & Planning

  • Involved in the development of strategies and goal setting for further development of the Pick n Pay Own Brand range.
  • Create & manage yearly objectives, business plans and budget
Own Brand Development and Maintenance

  • Achieve budgeted goals for area of accountability through management of assigned categories, business analysis, and strategic recommendations
  • Lead the development of Own Brand projects within the category group and ensure the maintenance of existing Own Brand range.
  • Create detailed launch plan for new products in your area of accountability including expected volumes, target price and margin, and benchmark products. Compile the Own Brand Launch plan based on category plans and in accordance with the overall strategies and priorities.
  • Manage the preparation and execution of tenders and cost exercises, product specifications, sourcing of suppliers, negotiation of better costs, supplier agreements, packaging briefs and new line administration
  • Utilize category management principles to identify product and brand opportunities, and provide the solution required to realize these opportunities
Business Partner Relationship Management

  • Develop strong customer and supplier relationships by developing and delivering on mutually established goals; enhance the Company's connectivity with our business partners
  • Facilitate and take part in knowledge sharing processes with Daymon Employees throughout the organization
  • Develop and support a strong team working culture within the Own Brand team
  • Create both formal and informal contacts with colleagues in other functions and other countries to ensure the best results
Employee Development

  • Develop and retain key talent to enable the execution of the collective goals of the customer and the enterprise

  • Coach and inspire Associate Business Manager in their daytoday work in order to prepare them for more leadership responsibility

Minimum Qualifications:
University degree in Marketing, Business Management or related field advantageous
Minimum Experience: 3+ Years of Sales/Buying experience within FMCG/CPG, Retailer or Manufacturer.
Required experience to include proficiency in Category Management, Brand Management, Marketing, Sourcing and Supply and Financial Management

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Background should include consumer focused category, brand and product development.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to setting and achieving budgets
Ability to analyze and convert large amounts of data into insights and recommendations
In depth understanding of how categories integrate within account
Indepth understanding of the industry and retailer competitive environment
Proven track record of developing talent and ability/willingness to mentor Employees
Proficiency in Microsof
