    Proposals Engineer

    The successful Proposals Engineer will assist the Key Account Managers in preparing proposals and cost estimations for new projects, equipment upgrades and modernisation, technical services, major equipment repairs, customer liaison, marketing and business sales strategy for Aluminium smelters.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Receive tenders / RFQ specifications and liaise with external suppliers to prepare high quality scopes of work.
    • Monitor and respect tender deadlines, communicate with head office to request engineering and/or material quotations, and draft project proposals for review with the Key Account and Proposal Manager.
    • Review and adjudicate proposals received, follow up the client evaluation process until order placement, and compile project handovers when an order is received.
    • Attend close-out meetings at the end of projects to optimise future proposals and support repairs business with proposal reviews, bills of material, scopes of work where needed.
    • Interpret technical manuals, parts lists, bills of material and installation manuals for equipment to aid in the building of proposals.
    • Occasional site inspections may be required to aid in the understanding and scoping of jobs.

    Desired Experience & Qualification

    • A South African Grade 12 / Matric qualification is required, along with a Tertiary Qualification (at least N.Dip. level) in either mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering fields.

    Relevant experience includes project costing or similar estimating experience, supply chain / purchasing experience, knowledge of project management principles, knowledge of heavy industrial equipment repair and modifications, and ability to apply technical knowledge as part of the solution to the client.

    Soft Skills

    • Strong communication and active listening skills are essential, as is being proactive in identifying and solving problems, innovating to get the task done, working to deadlines and prioritising tasks, and quickly adapting to situations.
