Core purpose of the role
The IFRS Technical Financial Accounting Specialist will not only have strong accounting and financial reporting skills and be hands on with the group finances, but will also be commercially aware and take ownership, together with the Executive:
Strategic Finance and Group FD, for financial aspects of the group strategy, execution and performance monitoring.
The primary purpose of this role is to support the Group and all divisions to deliver statutory and business financial reports according to internal Barloworld Accounting Policies, deadlines JSE Listing requirements and IFRS, together with the review, analysis and quality assurance of financial reports delivered by divisional FD to ensure value-adding financial information is presented to facilitate decision making.
This role is also responsible for coordinating technical accounting efforts across the group and supporting the business units in determining the accounting implications of proposed transactions/contracts which maintaining a commercial mindset.
As part of the Group Finance team, this role is responsible for technical accounting support of the Group which is fundamental to our external reporting including, but not limited to, audit committee reporting, interim and annual financial statements and our integrated annual reporting.
Key deliverables and outputs
- Maintenance of the business strategic financial models and provision of financial input into the annual business strategic plans in conjunction with the Group FP&A;
- Managing the annual corporate and group budget submissions to Exco/Board;
- Managing quarterly forecasts and submission of BCO and Group to Exco/Board;
- Managing monthly business performance monitoring, including ongoing development & maintenance of relevant business scorecards/CEO reports. Monitoring and supporting initiatives to improve key business metrics, margins and drivers with BCO and the divisions.
- Innovation commercial support to divisions;
- Manage the Group external audit process;
- Accounting technical opinions on diverse transactions/contracts;
- Review Annual Financial Statements and financial reporting elements of the Integrated Annual Report;
- Ad hoc assignments as required by Group Exco and/or Board/Divisional finance teams;
- Advise on technical implications of M&A and tax structures.
- Participate in project meeting on M&As
- Member of the Group Finance management team
- Prepare reports and presentations for Audit Committee, Group Exco and Board and investor communications; and
- Project management and implementation of new accounting standards across the group
Internal & External customers
Internal:
- Regular communication with financial managers/directors/executives across all levels, strategy practitioners, Group Exco members, and Heads of department
- Regular communication at internal Finance and Strategy / M&A meetings to provide technical guidance
- Reporting and presenting to all levels at Corporate.
External:
- Financial institutions.
- Research companies/organisations
- Consultants
- Analysts/investors/ratings agencies

Academic qualifications Competencies
- CA (SA)

Work Experience
- 6 years' post articles experience in related area and able to demonstrate this knowledge across the (some experience in the technical department of a industries/geographies in which Barloworld operates big 4 accounting firm beneficial)
