Born out of a national convention to draft the first national strategic plan for AIDS, NACOSA is now a leading national civil society organisation working collectively to build stronger, more equal, and healthy communities free from the burden of HIV.

We do this by strengthening community systems, mobilising and managing resources, facilitating networking and collaborations, providing and enabling access to services and advocating, learning and sharing widely.


NACOSA works at all levels across the country - from international donor agencies, the corporate sector and national government, right through to sub-district services and small, community groups.

Strengthening Community systems for NACOSA focuses of building networks of Community Based Organisations and Community Leadership

The
Networking and Constituency Manager position reports to the Executive Director.


The duties and responsibilities of the Network and Constituency Manager will include, but not limited to**:

  • Define and build the NACOSA network of Community Based Organisations.
  • Conceptualise networking and the NACOSA network that will deliver on NACOSA's strategic pillar to reconnect with its constituency. NACOSA's network currently host 600 active members and includes NACOSA implementation partners.
  • Design and implement a strategy to build and establish NACOSA's approach to networking, with a focus on strengthening Community health systems, health related service delivery, advocacy (raising the voices of smaller organisations), consolidating the voice of its network members.
  • Build collaborations in the NGO sector with the broad purpose to support NACOSA and its network members to perform its mandate to improve public health outcomes.
  • Act as a specialist lead for networking and relationship management within a broader team of managers / specialists in a way that inspires good teamwork and collaboration.
  • Design, implement, analyze, and utilize the findings of research targeted at the network members to ensure effective functioning of the network and implementation of the NACOSA business strategy.
  • Create and drive an awareness amongst NACOSA staff to represent and support the NACOSA Network and networking activities.
  • Analise and consolidate information within the organisation that will improve and guide networking (and subnetwork) activities, for example, attending meetings to understand member concerns, or reviewing programme reports, etc.
  • Perform administrative functions related to the NACOSA network, including keeping the membership list up to date, administering membership requests, granting access.
  • A Degree in Social Science/Public Health or related discipline is highly valued although experience and prior learning will also be considered.
  • An understanding of the social and structural determinants of health
  • Prior demonstrated experience of building and managing networks of Community Based Organizations.
  • A working knowledge of health programming (example, Key Population Programmes, HIV Testing Services, HIV Prevention, People Who use Drugs, Adult and Young Women Programmes) and operations of the NGO sector practical experience will be a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge of Government policy, strategy and institutional arrangements in the provision of HIV and AIDS services and programmes.
  • Good computer skills, specifically in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills on all levels
  • Read, write, and speak in two official South African languages, of which one must be English.
  • Excellent networking and relationship building
  • Excellent presentation, sales (ability to influence) and negotiation skills.
  • Valid South African Driver's license and competency in driving.

  • The ability to think strategically and analytically.
  • The ability to work across multiple projects, with the excellent planning, prioritization, and time management skills that this will require.
  • Definite inclination to keep abreast of technical developments in the HIV, AIDS, and TB fields.
  • Proven ability to work as a team member within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa.
Remuneration will be competitive, based on skills and experience.
