The Environment, Health and Safety Officer is a seasoned role and has the primary responsibility to implement Environment, Health and Safety policies, ensuring healthy and safety conditions in the work environment to prevent harm, injury and illness.

This role collaborates with a variety of stakeholders to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment, including those that harm the external environment.


The Environment, Health and Safety Officer analyses and designs control for the prevention of occupational diseases, manages the risk related to the environment and related incident management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regional HSE Accountability and Responsibility and ISO 45001 SMS and 14001 EMS Implementation.
  • Implement Global HSSE strategic objectives and bring them to life in Daily HSE implementation.
  • Drive HSE culture awareness and riskbased thinking.
  • Manage and reduce operational risks by providing guidance and advice on HSSE risk management at all levels.
  • Provide technical advice on relevant HSSE issues and communicate throughout the region.
  • National cooperation through the SHEQ department to ensure we comply with ISO, legislative, operational , and client requirements.
  • Ensure that the HSE files are managed effectively, comply with the correct standards, and submitted on time.
  • Implement IMS

Audit Program:
Conduct ISO system audits, legislative compliance audits, on schedule and Report on findings.

  • Implement HSE related administration functions within the region.
  • Identify HSE coordinator roles, assign legal appointments, arrange relevant training and medical evaluations.
  • Conduct internal training sessions on ISO IMS System compliance, implementation, and reporting.
  • Perform job observations, recording of safety request, attend to HSE complaints, Hazard Identification, VFLs.
  • Raise, record, track, implement and close HSE NCR's and CAR's.
  • Incident Management: Incident Investigaton, root cause analysis, Corrective Actions and lessons learned.
  • Record, track Injury on duty (IOD's), and cooperate with Peers to resolve IOD related issues.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate root cause and implement corrective and preventative Actions.
  • Third-Party HSE Vendor compliance evaluation, Project HSE compliance, coordination, approvals, submissions and permit approvals.
  • Report to HSE Manager on safety stats to enable trend analysis on schedule and time.
  • Drive regional systems and awareness training to embed an HSE Culture at all levels.
  • Suggest improvements on how to improve safety on premises, client sites or systems.
  • Drive regional HSE Committee, report on findings, implement corrective and preventative actions and report on inherent issues.
  • Keep ISO IMS HSE related registers updated, and management of the regional monthly & quarterly reports.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and support the HSE team in identifying practical costeffective solutions and controls for HSSE risks

Requirements:


  • Minimum of year's practical experience in a Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) role, ideally with a focus on Construction, Technology, telecommunications and/or other highrisk industries.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the HSE legislative frameworks across South Africa and the ability to clearly and concisely communicate legal requirements.
  • University degree in health, safety and/or environment discipline or equivalent.
  • HSE Lead Auditor qualifications (IRCA, or equivalent) advantageous.
  • SACPCMP Registration Advantageous
  • HSE post graduate certification (FPP, LL, FA, FF, MEWP's etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with international standards ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 900
  • Knowledge on HSE regional implementation is advantageous.
