At KCS the primary role of the Product Owner is to take ownership of the product backlog and to manage the delivery of any new features or fixes for the product.

The Product Owner will take responsibility for the scope, success criteria and expected outcome definition for customer-specific development requests. They work closely with the Product Strategist in order to define and deliver upon the roadmap and release goals.

They work with the Development Team to ensure there are clear priorities and development goals which deliver maximum value to the business and our customers.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Collaborates with Business Stakeholders to assess the feasibility of the development in alignment with other development requests and product priorities
  • Able to order, prioritise and manage complex and conflicting customer projects
  • Proactively communicate and update business stakeholders on workload capacity, demand on time, and timelines
  • Facilitates workshops to analyse and document development requirements
  • Actively engage with customers on technical and functional specification documents
  • Documents highlevel requirements by using appropriate methodologies (process flow diagrams, data flow diagrams, use case diagrams etc.)
  • Decomposes features and epics in such a way that development efforts can be easily estimated and scope can be added to JIRA.
  • Communicates time and effort estimates to the Project Manager / Customer Stakeholder
  • Engage with the wider business in order to ensure best practices are upheld
  • Builds collaborative relationships with stakeholders to ensure that business objectives and challenges are known, and considered, for team planning events
  • Manage, refine and prioritise the product backlog determined by Product Strategists to ensure it is in a healthy state to aid with release planning
  • Monitors and reports on sprint progress, including active risk management
  • Accountable for meeting feature acceptance criteria upon delivery, to agreed release timescales
  • Actively participate and lead all team ceremonies to help coach the team on what the mínimal viable solution needs to achieve in order to solve the users' problem
  • Line management of the development team and QA engineers for responsible products
  • Continuous improvement mindset to drive quality and efficiency improvements within the team
  • Identifies learning and development opportunities for self and team

Key Requirements:


Experience & Knowledge:

  • Experienced in working with different levels of people of low or high technical ability to solicit requirements with a focus on the problem and value statements, not the end solution
  • Experience in facilitating customer workshops, analysing and documenting customer requirements and engaging with senior stakeholders to build a collaborative and trust culture
  • Experience in the decomposition of requirements (Epic to Stories), story pointing, backlog refinement and sprint rituals to successfully participate where required as part of the delivery of the requirement
  • Experienced in creating, maintaining and prioritising product backlogs using product management tools (e.g. JIRA or Aha)
  • Experienced in working within an Agile delivery framework for business management software development companies (e.g. Scrum or Kanban)
  • Working knowledge of overall software development life cycle processes and best practices (e.g. development, testing and deployment)
