    Job Description

    The WIC Pharmacist Assistant plays a vital role at Medipost Pharmacy, Gezina under the guidance of the Pharmacy Manager.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Evaluate patients' medicine-related needs to determine the indication, safety, and effectiveness of their therapy.
    2. Prepare medication by reviewing and interpreting prescriptions, identifying potential therapeutic incompatibilities, and ensuring they are signed by a pharmacist.
    3. Dispense medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals and obtain a signature from a licensed pharmacist.
    4. Accurately interpret prescriptions and act professionally and responsibly, adhering to legal requirements and guidelines set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPP) and South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
    5. Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medicines while being aware of common dosages and essential drug interactions.
    6. Correct errors on rejected prescriptions according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    7. Accurately capture and dispense medicine as prescribed on a valid prescription, following SOPs and obtaining a signature from a licensed pharmacist.
    8. Verify that all medications are checked for accuracy by a pharmacist before issuing them to a patient.
    9. Assist with re-packaging medicines approved by the responsible pharmacist.
    10. Participate in the distribution and control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
    11. Help manage the ordering of medicines and scheduled substances up to, and including, Schedule 6 according to an authorized person's instructions.
    12. Check-in, put-away or return dispensary stock to Receiving.
    13. Manage and maintain over-the-counter medicines, order, replenish, and stock adequate inventory.
    14. Inspect stock for damages and expiry dates.
    15. Record any stock discrepancies on provided documents according to SOPs.
    16. Re-stock consumables when necessary.
    17. Participate in regular cycle counts and annual/bi-annual stock takes.
    18. Process all paperwork accurately for submission of claims to medical aids according to SOPs.
    19. Ensure timely authorization of patient medicine at medical aid according to SOPs.
    20. Maintain patient profiles on the system (including merging) according to SOPs.
    21. Take note of messages on patient profiles and take suitable action (if required). Create accurate and relevant action diaries on the MedipostApp system according to SOPs.

    Customer Interaction

    1. Furnish information and advice to patients regarding medicine usage.
    2. Determine patient compliance to therapy, and follow-up to ensure patients' medicine-related needs are met according to SOPs.
    3. Interact professionally with patients and healthcare professionals.
    4. Execute customer service initiatives in the dispensary to ensure exceptional customer experience, driving customer loyalty.
    5. Meet and exceed customer expectations.

    Operational Efficiency

    1. Efficiently execute operational activities of the dispensary, including safe and responsible stock management, shrinkage, general housekeeping, and administration in line with GPP and SAPC Regulations and company standards.
    2. Maintain constant communication with colleagues and management to address expectations, requirements, and compliance.
    3. Ensure integration and partnership with the clinic, over-the-counter (OTC) healthcare aisle resulting in a comprehensive offering to patients regarding their healthcare needs.
    4. Stay updated on changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
    5. Assist management in identifying/eliminating security risks.
    6. Prioritize work to achieve daily outcome requirements.
    7. Identify problems and escalate them through relevant channels.
    8. Maintain good housekeeping practices.
    9. Ensure stock and shelves remain clean and tidy.
    10. Manage own time & attendance according to company policies.
    11. Adhere to company policies and SOPs.
    12. Initiate self-improvement and strive to constantly exceed expectations.
    13. Motivated individual.
    14. Maintain positive relationships with departments and the Group at large.
    15. Willingness to work overtime.

    Receiving and Stock Management

    1. All processes in the WIC Receiving are conducted according to written SOPs and comply with GPP.
    2. Accurately check and capture received stock (scanning or via product description, pack size, unit, batch number, expiry date, and quantity) according to SOPs.
    3. Stock is inspected for damages, counterfeit, and expiry dates according to SOPs and GPP.
    4. Record stock discrepancies on documents provided according to SOPs.
    5. Prioritize back orders and urgent orders in the workflow.
    6. Handle stock with extra care to avoid damages and report these incidents to the Pharmacy Manager according to SOPs and GPP.
    7. Complete checklists and document control sheets accurately where applicable according to relevant SOPs.
    8. Submit documentation to the responsible individual (when applicable).
    9. Immediately replenish stock after the checking process according to SOPs.
    10. Acknowledge timelines as per SOPs.
    11. Prioritize work to achieve daily outcome requirements.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Grade 12 qualification is required.

    Minimum 2 years of experience as a claiming Pharmacist Assistant is preferred.

    Ideal Candidate

    1. Retail pharmacy experience is advantageous.

    4. Good listening and communication skills (verbal and written).
