The English Global Citizenship Educator for Grades 7&8, is responsible for professionally leading the development, delivery and evaluation of the curriculum specific to the department, also management of resources and leadership to staff to promote quality teaching and learning.

The HOD is tasked with enabling the development of learners so that they may have the opportunity to extend their character, their academic achievement and their co-curricular achievements.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Teaching and learning_
  • Teaching and coordinate the learning of the Intermediate & Senior Phase.
  • Coordinate, monitor and control teaching and learning activities in the primary school.
  • Ensure student learning is the Intermediate & Senior Phase department priority.
  • Ensure the Intermediate & Senior Phase programs cater for the needs of all learners including the gifted and learning support groups.
  • Ensure learner's progress is effectively reported to parents through school generated reporting systems, interview and individualised reporting and communication where needed.
  • Ensure that the policies and programs in the Intermediate & Senior Phase reflect the values of the school.
  • Curriculum and Assessment Management_
  • Be responsible for Intermediate & Senior Phase staff delivering the curriculum, to standard, for all primary school grades, effectively and maintaining a positive learning environment in their classroom.
  • Plan, develop and review courses for the Intermediate & Senior Phase.
  • Responsible for the organisation, preparation and delivery of internal moderation of standards and expectations taught in the Intermediate & Senior Phase.
  • Administer appropriate assessment programs in accordance with national and school assessment policy and ensure staff carry these out, record results and compile reports.
  • Collect and record data so as to be able to assess programs over time.
  • Compile, update, evaluate and review the Intermediate & Senior Phase scheme and strategic plan.
  • Personnel Management_
  • Provide professional support to Intermediate & Senior Phase Staff, the Academic Committee and the Academic Faculty Leadership.
  • Undertake Intermediate & Senior Phase Staff performance management system, completing lesson observations, Interviews and ensuring staff teaching or teamteaching the Intermediate & Senior Phase have the support to have success at executing their duties.
  • Meet regularly with Intermediate & Senior Phase staff and ensure wellbeing for all personnel.
  • Financial, Administration and Resource Management_
  • Support the Academic Leadership (AL) with implementing of new initiatives.
  • Attend Intermediate & Senior Phase Learning Area whole department meetings.
  • Prepare/write the Intermediate & Senior Phase section of annual departmental report to be presented to the school board.
  • Attend AL meetings when required.
  • Maintain uptodate management documents and grade level schemes/briefs.
  • Management of the Intermediate & Senior Phase Department Budget.
  • Coordination of Intermediate & Senior Phase resource procurement, management of resourcing supporting the department vision.
  • Resources_:
  • Planning and management of the Intermediate & Senior Phase Department resources and annual learner requirements.
  • Ensure resources are maintained as required.
  • Ensure resources are stored and distributed effectively.
  • Professional/Personal Development_
  • Attend appropriate Professional Development/Subject Associations and be uptodate on all curriculum developments both national and global.
  • Belong to an Intermediate & Senior Phase Teacher's professional networking community and forums.
  • Contribute to wider life of the school / co
- and extra-curricular activities and be available for school-related meetings, functions, events when required.

  • Foster positive relationships within the school community.

Salary:
R15, R25,000.00 per month
