The main purpose of this position is to provide first
- line supervision of the accounting function performed by staff, ensuring the validity, timeliness and accuracy of transactions.
Detailed Description

P lan the work for self and others in the team, using discretion in defining and prioritising the work for the team.


  • Ensure adherence to controls and that work is performed within established practices and given processes, rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with standards, policies and other guidelines.
  • Perform and supervise an accounting function such as creating payment batches, including Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) and Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) payments in accordance with accounting policies as well as the relevant accounting standards and Acts.
  • Review and approve transactions, including suppliers' registration, invoices, foreign payments, petty cash payments, supplier reconciliations, monthly valueadded tax (VAT) reconciliations and General Ledger (GL) account reconciliations, in line with the delegation of authority.
  • Supervise the section's administrative processes, thereby ensuring the accuracy and completeness in record keeping.
  • L ead (where appropriate) and participate in stakeholder engagements (internal and external), displaying the ability to solicit information as well as deliver a coherent and convincing message.
  • Diagnose problems and choose and/or modify routines to deal with them, displaying the ability to provide solutions for problems within a defined context.
  • A ctively participate in processes that aim to continually improve systems, processes and procedure within the department.
  • Take responsibility for managing the performance and development of the team members through ongoing onthejob training and longterm career management support.
Job Requirements
a Bachelor's degree (NQF 7) in Accounting or Finance or an equivalent qualification; and
- at least two to five years' experience in an accounting environment, of which between one and two years in a supervisory capacity.
