    Accountant Job Description

    We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a BCom Accounting qualification, at least 5 years of experience in a similar role, and proficiency in Xero and Pastel.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide management accounts for the company on a monthly basis.
    • Improve systems and processes within the accounting department.
    • Manage Pastel and Xero accounting.
    • Ensure VAT is calculated correctly.

    Financial Transaction Recording:

    • Record all financial transactions using journal entries.
    • Categorize transactions into revenue, expenses, liabilities, and assets to ensure accurate financial reporting.

    General Ledger Management:

    • Maintain the company's general ledger, updating and reconciling accounts regularly.
    • Record transactions in the general ledger, ensuring accurate and organized data by account type.

    Account Reconciliation:

    • Reconcile bank statements with the general ledger to identify discrepancies and correct errors.
    • Reconcile other financial accounts, including credit card statements and loans.

    Accounts Payable and Receivable:

    • Manage accounts payable, tracking amounts owed to suppliers and vendors.
    • Manage accounts receivable, tracking outstanding amounts owed to the company by customers.

    Financial Statement Preparation:

    • Assist in preparing income statements, showing revenue, expenses, and profitability.
    • Help prepare balance sheets, summarizing assets, liabilities, and equity at a specific point in time.

    Assisting with Audits:

    • Prepare the company's financial records for audits, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date documentation.
    • Cooperate with external auditors during the audit process.
