  • 10 years experience on mine winder equipment or similar heavy rotating machinery and hydraulics

Responsibilities:


  • Management of activities and processes of the Mechanical Workshop facility including machining facilities, light and heavy assembly areas, hydraulic workshop
  • Task planning and technical guidance and instruction to workshop staff
  • Uphold requirements of all formal and implied legal appointments as stipulated
  • Involvement in the compilation of risk assessments and enforcement of the companys safety, health and environmental policies as may be currently in place or introduced from time to time
  • Implement and maintain good housekeeping practices at all times, this includes maintaining all relevant equipment to appropriate safety standards while ensuring compliance with legal requirements
  • Training of workshop staff
  • Liaise with the Mechanical Production Manager and storeman to maintain adequate stock levels of all consumables on a daytoday basis. This will include items such as tools, paint, cleaning solvents and PPE as well as job specific items needed from time to time
  • Monitor quality of the product being machined, manufactured, assembled or refurbished in the facility.
  • Quality and timeous delivery
  • Conduct daily Workshop Preinspections
  • Conduct toolbox talks and SOP talks
  • Liaise with suppliers and arrange site waste skip collections
  • Arrange transport requirements for external and internal deliveries and collections
  • Drawing up, maintaining and checking production staff time sheets


  • Supervising external contractors

  • Drawing up enquiries/tenders/quotations for external machining business
  • Supervise all external jobs requiring shot blasting, painting and assembling of these projects by the client on our premises
  • Purchasing materials, consumables and tooling required for all external jobs
  • Obtaining quotations and ordering of all machine tool requirements for lashing gear, Lilly and Hydraulic Departments as well as horizontal and vertical boring machines
  • Obtain quotations and ordering of workshop general consumable requirements
  • Controlling and issuing PPE requirements for the workshop
  • Recording all diesel used as per company card purchases
  • Assuming responsibility for all crane checks, inspections and repairs
  • Assuming responsibility for daily visual checking and quarterly inspections on all workshop lifting tackle and equipment
  • Assist in obtaining quotes and placing orders for project packaging
  • Arranging all required safety documents for all contractors on site in terms of legal and company requirements
  • Drafting of QCPs for all necessary processes on internal and external jobs
  • Issuing of Work Instructions to lashing gear, Lilly, Hydraulic and machining departments
