    Solar Installation and Maintenance Technician

    Reporting To: Quality Control Manager, Operations

    Description

    Our team ensures the production, shipping, importation, and distribution of Sun King products worldwide. We also handle warranty products efficiently.

    The Operations team comprises innovative individuals working closely with global and regional teams to deliver hundreds of thousands of Sun King products each month.

    About This Role:

    We are looking for a qualified Solar Installation Technician to drive the adoption of clean energy solutions in South Africa. You will be responsible for solar installations from site assessment to system activation, ensuring compliance with all South African safety regulations and standards.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Participate in site assessments to evaluate suitability for solar panel installation
    • Assist in designing and planning solar system installations based on customer needs and roof specifications
    • Install racking, solar panels, electrical components, and wiring, ensuring proper functionality and safety
    • Perform electrical wiring and grounding according to code requirements
    • Test and validate the installation and verify performance and efficiency
    • Conduct preventative maintenance on solar systems and troubleshoot any issues
    • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all installation and maintenance activities
    • Work effectively with team members to ensure a smooth and efficient installation process
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • Follow the SANS standards for Installations
    • Perform other tasks assigned by your supervisor

    Requirements:

    • National Certificate in Electrical Trades (N3) or equivalent qualification
    • One Phase Wiremen's License
    • Minimum 2 years' experience in solar panel installation or a related field
    • Knowledge of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and their components
    • Electrical fundamentals, SANS Wiring Code (SANS 10142-1), and South African safety regulations knowledge
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
    • Experience working at heights and in various weather conditions
    • Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift and carry heavy equipment
    • Valid South African driver's license

    Bonus Requirements:

    • Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Candidate Engineering Technician (CET)
    • Experience with different types of roofing materials
    • Excellent customer service skills
