ACTIVE FOUNDRY:

Manufacture and distribution of stainless steel, cast steel, low alloy steel & spheroidal graphite iron castings including associated products, components, wear parts and ground engaging tools for the valve, petro-chemical, power, construction and mining industries of Southern Africa.



Job Purpose
The Production Manager will be responsible for the following departments: Moulding, Melting, Closing and Lab. It is critical for the Production Manager to understand and implement methods.


The Production Manager will be coordinating and controlling aspects of the business for production, quality, health and safety, and environmental point of view.

The Production Manager must work closely with the various appointed managers (Junior and Senior).

The Production Manager is responsible to prevent scrap within the departments reporting to him/her.

Duties and Responsibilities_

  • Know methods
  • Do production scheduling of the whole order book on a weekly basis, to ensure timely delivery of castings to customers.
  • Ensure timely ordering and delivery of all raw materials to complete scheduled production.
  • Ensure all supervisors and persons reporting to you, adhere to Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Ensure that Work Instructions are available for all production processes, and reviewed annually, or when there are adjustments to work processes prior to the annual review. Work Instructions are part of Active Foundry's ISO requirement.
  • Ensure manpower is enough and properly trained to complete scheduled production.
  • Assist managers and supervisors in achieving production targets.
  • Ensure no raw material is wasted.
  • Ensure scrap is not made.
  • Establish and audit pouring temperatures and practices to ensure good quality castings.
  • Responsible for material certifications.
  • Establish and audit processes such as heat treatment cycles to produce castings with necessary properties.
  • Instruct and train supervisors and others in technical areas of foundry metals, sand and ensure that training records are forwarded to the HR Department.
  • Ensure that all administrative functions required by ISO and other internal processes are attended to, and available for various meetings and audits (internal and external)
  • Ensure that weekly production meetings are held.
  • Other duties as required or requested.
  • Establish and monitor chemical and physical properties of all metals poured to meet customer specifications and governing standards.
  • Establish and monitor sand properties to produce castings with good appearance and free from defects.
  • Ensure all castings produced are of good quality and fit for purpose.
  • Ensure all departments adhere to procedures and work instructions.
  • If any repairs need to be performed on castings supervise what needs to be done and ensure castings are acceptable before dispatch.
  • Ensure that you comply to safety regulations and wear the correct ppe for the various areas you work in or may be exposed to and ensure that working conditions is ergonomically set up to avoid unnecessary body strain.
  • Proper understanding of the SDS's of hazardous chemicals you may be exposed too, is a must, especially health hazards, first aid measures, the ppe requirement, etc.
  • Ensure no damage is done to the environment during the execution of duties.

Qualifications_

The Production Manager must be a qualified Metallurgist.

  • Practical foundry experience is a must.
  • Must be able to work without guidance or supervision.

Must know methods.

  • Fault finding and analyzing skills are required.
  • The ability to work under pressure.
