    Senior Lecturer/Lecturer: Biomedical Sciences

    Job Title: Senior Lecturer/Lecturer: Biomedical Sciences, Faculty: Health & Wellness Sciences, Department: Biomedical Sciences, Campus/Location: To Be Determined, Job Type: Permanent, Number of Positions: 1

    The primary purpose of this position is to teach Clinical Chemistry and associated modules at undergraduate level in the Biomedical Sciences Department with the aim of producing future Medical Laboratory Science graduates who will be able to register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Additionally, the role includes participating in departmental research and postgraduate programs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lecturing in Clinical Chemistry and other subjects related to the training of Laboratory Scientists in the BHSc programme.
    • Developing appropriate teaching materials for clinical chemistry and other subjects being offered on the BHSc programme.
    • Performing academic administration tasks.
    • Promoting and participating in community engagement projects and maintaining links with relevant stakeholders.
    • Assisting with quality assurance and regulatory body accreditation.
    • Research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate projects and dissertations.
    • Enrolling for continuous professional development opportunities to improve lecturing skills.
    • Demonstrating excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
    • Maintaining technical/professional knowledge and skills in the field of Clinical Chemistry.
    • Demonstrating good administrative, organizational skills and time management skills.
    • Exhibiting strong learner focus, coaching, and mentoring skills.
    • Showcasing knowledge and understanding of the latest technology and developments in the field of Clinical Chemistry.

    • Maintaining quality of work and reliability.
    • Demonstrating good work ethics and ability to manage work effectively.
    • Displaying excellent teaching, research, and presentation skills.

    Requirements:

    • Senior Lecturer: PhD or doctoral degree in the field of Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualification, Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist in the field of Clinical Chemistry and/or Clinical Pathology: Independent Practice, At least four (4) years relevant lecturing experience in Higher Education and/or five (5) years clinical practice experience in a clinical chemistry/clinical pathology medical diagnostic laboratory, A record of postgraduate student supervision and publications in accredited journals.
    • Lecturer: Master's degree in the field of Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualification, Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist in the field of Clinical Chemistry and/or Clinical Pathology: Independent Practice, At least two (2) years relevant lecturing experience in Higher Education and/or four (4) years clinical practice experience in a clinical chemistry/clinical pathology medical diagnostic laboratory.
