    Requirements for this position include:

  • A NQF 9 qualification i.e., Masters degree in Communication, Marketing, or related field.
  • At least 10 years' experience in driving communications and marketing, of which 5 years should have been at a Senior Management level, including responsibility for advising and leading the communications and marketing direction and function of complex and large institutions or organisations.
  • Experience in leading and managing a diverse team of professionals.
  • The following would be advantageous:
  • Knowledge of policy and procedures related to university operations and administration.
  • Experience in dealing with crisis communication and management in an agile manner.
  • Sound insight into the Higher education sector.
  • Experience building partnerships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A qualified candidate will possess the following competencies and attributes:
  • Be a strategic thinker and planner, strong in delivery and conceptual thinking abilities to deal with complexity, uncertainty, and change.
  • Capacity to make astute judgements and decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and agility in managing reputational and crisis situations effectively.
  • Inspirational leadership and strong management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, presentation and written.)
  • Ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in current marketing trends and solutions.
  • Sound Financial and Human Resource management skills.

    Responsibilities include:
  • Visionary leadership in planning, designing and implementing comprehensive, multi-layered strategies, enabling them institution to remain competitive and appropriately positioned to help the university advance and achieve key institutional goals.
  • To provide strategic leadership to the Communication and Marketing Department as a whole in order to ensure the efficient management of the department and its activities.
  • Professional engagement to strategically direct communication between related departments and faculties, the senior leadership as well as the broader university community and external stakeholders. This would include participation at various meetings, writing reports and briefs, acting as chair, committee representation and/or spokesperson for the university as and when required).
  • The Executive Director is responsible for strict governance of the CMD function with regard to institutional,administrative and financial compliance, policies and procedures.
