RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach, supervise and assess at both undergraduate and postgraduate level;
  • Supervise postgraduate students;
  • Initiate, conduct and sustain highlevel research and publications;
  • Develop and organise under
- and postgraduate graduate curricula/modules as required;

  • Academic administration and other duties as determined by the Head of Department;
  • Involvement in departmental and faculty committees and initiatives;
  • Participate in community engagement initiatives;
  • Participation in the Department's strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research and community engagement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A doctoral degree in Criminology or Security Studies;
  • Appropriate teaching experience in the applicable field of expertise;
  • Experience in supervising master's students;
  • Research outputs appropriate to the post level and/or applicable field of experience.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of Fundamental Criminology;
  • Extensive knowledge of Criminology Theory;
  • Experience in teaching Research Methodology.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES

The following will be a strong recommendation:

  • A proven research and publishing record of accomplishment in the specialised field;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
