Technology-driven, offering ready-to-go solutions for all wastewater treatment projects, our client is looking to employ a suitably qualified and experienced Project Manager situated on-site in Worcester, Western Cape.


The company needs an experienced & hands-on Project Manager with a well-rounded understanding of wastewater design-type projects & a hands on approach to lead & execute the project under (targets) guidance & direction of the Project Sponsor.


The appointment would be a fixed term, non-permanent appointment. The duration of the contract would be 12 months with a view to establish a longer-term relationship with the Company.
This project site is in Worcester, Western Cape. It entails the modifications of an existing & operational water treatment plant. Various optimisation solutions have been identified & needs to be implemented as individual work packages. Each with own budget, scope, & sponsor for funding. Scope includes process, civil, mechanical, electrical & instrumentation works.

Effective communication is key as various stakeholders are involved.

Proactive approach to problem solving & implementation of defined solutions & action plans.

Agile approach to project management to the changing environment of a complex operational plant.


Reporting structure:


The Project Manager will internally report to the Project Sponsor for project strategy, commercial matters inclusive of project contribution targets & stakeholder relationship management.

Administratively to the Project Management Office to support execution efforts.


The Project Manager to work hand in hand with the on-site operational team & the project team to ensure all stakeholders are engaging in the implementation of solutions.


This position is to be occupied on site, minimum 5 days per week, overseeing the various site activities & sub-contractors while managing all project management related activities.

Defining & maintaining a balance in execution between the requirements of the operational team & the project team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the project from definition of work package to closeout of work package throughout all the Process Groups & Knowledge areas required to satisfy the successful implementation of the defined work package solution.

Outcomes of responsibilities as examples:

  • Responsible for the Projects Account, Compiling of Application for Payment for the Main Works, Variation Order Applications for Payment, Claims Application for Payment,
  • Commercial Management of contractual requirements
  • Specifically Suppliers to the project.
  • Project Control Manager, managing the Controls of Cost, Resources, Procurement, Quality, planning of overall activities
  • Progress report and risk report
  • Respond to Engineer/Employer's agent communication
  • Submissions of notifications and queries
  • Submit request for quote
  • Submit request for information
  • Attend commercial meetings with the Engineer/Employer's agent
  • Attend daily progress meetings
  • Attend weekly progress meetings
  • Attend monthly progress meetings
  • Participate in value engineering sessions as necessary to reduce cost.
  • Submitting monthly claims and invoicing
  • Prepare monthly cost reports
  • Prepare and issue cash flow projections to the Project Sponsor
  • Approve orders
  • Approve and appoint subcontractors
  • Draft SLA contracts with subcontractors
  • Approve subcontractors progress claims
  • Manage site office personnel relevant to the project
  • Manage subcontractors & labour relations
  • Establish and oversee project close out documentation and processes through to completion.
  • Negotiate, resolve and close out any outstanding change orders, quality issues or disputes.
  • Prepare and submit final project accounting and budget.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree/diploma.
  • Project Management related certificates.

Recommended Experience:

  • Min 10 years' experience as a project manager.
  • Proven Track Record
