    Description

    Operational Risk Manager

    The Operational Risk Manager will oversee the operational risk management framework and other critical risk classes including Business Continuity, Third-Party, Data, Model, Fraud, and Technology risks. The individual will ensure that these risk areas are managed in compliance with South African Reserve Bank (SARB) regulatory requirements and international best practices.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Develop an operational risk management framework aligned with SARB regulations and international standards.
    • Work with the Business on implementing operational risk processes:
      • Maintain an inventory of operational risk events.
      • Develop Key Risk Indicators.
      • Facilitate the implementation of the Risk and Control Assessment program.
      • Conduct ad-hoc change risk assessments for new initiatives.
      • Oversee operational risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation across bank operations.
    • Manage Business Continuity Planning to ensure bank readiness during disruptive events.
    • Conduct due diligence and ongoing monitoring of third-party vendors.
    • Implement data governance and model risk management practices.
    • Lead the fraud risk management program, developing strategies to prevent, detect, and respond to fraudulent activities.
    • Oversee technology risk management, focusing on cyber and information security.
    • Collaborate with IT and business units to enhance resilience against technology-related threats.
    • Prepare risk reports for senior management and relevant committees.
    • Conduct training sessions to promote a risk-aware culture.

    Desired Experience & Qualification

    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk Management, or related field; Master's degree or professional certifications highly desirable.
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in operational risk management within banking or financial services, with comprehensive understanding of specified risk classes.
    • Proven track record of managing various risk types.
    • Deep knowledge of SARB regulations, Basel III, and international risk management standards.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
