Duties/Pligte- The installation, daily maintenance and monitoring of computer systems and servers within the Faculties of Science and AgriSciences (This position may require

after-hours system maintenance from time to time);Providing technical support to staff and postgraduate students in particularly the Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Bioinformatics;- Carrying out administrative tasks as required;- Proactively identifying potential problems and finding solutions.

Die installering, daaglikse instandhouding en monitering van rekenaarstelsels en -bedieners binne die Fakulteit Natuurwetenskappe en Fakulteit AgriWetenskappe(Hierdie pos kan van tyd tot tyd na-uurse stelselonderhoud vereis);Bied tegniese ondersteuning aan personeel en nagraadse studente in veral die Wiskundige Wetenskappe, Fisika en Bioinformatika; Uitvoer van administratiewe pligte soos nodig; Die pro-aktiewe identifisering van moontlike probleme en soek na oplossings.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes- At least an Honours degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification;- At least three years relevant experience in Linux system administration and the configuration of Linux client computers;- Proven evidence of outstanding competence in the administration of Linux servers;- Knowledge of the virtualisation / containerisation of Linux systems;- Proven experience of installing, or extensive use and maintenance of, open-source software, specifically GitLab, JupyterHub and Pomerium;- Experience in setting up and maintaining source code banks;- Experience with Bash/Python, HTML or Markdown programming/scripting (these skills will be tested),- The ability to take the lead in solving technical problems completely independently;- The ability to work effectively in a team, as well as independently;- Excellent interpersonal skills;- The ability to transfer knowledge to colleagues.

Minstens 'n Honneursgraad in Rekenaarwetenskap of 'n gelykwaardige kwalifikasie; Minstens drie jaar se toepaslike ervaring in Linux-stelseladministrasie en die opstel van Linux-kliëntrekenaars; Bewese uitstaande bevoegdheid in die administrasie van Linux-bedieners; Kennis van die virtualisering/'containerisation' van Linux-stelsels; Bewese ervaring van installering of intensiewe gebruik en instandhouding van oopbronprogrammatuur, spesifiek GitLab, JupyterHub en Pomerium; Ervaring van die opstel en onderhoud van bronkodebanke; Ervaring van Bash/Python, HTML, en Markdown-programmering/'scripting' (hierdie vaardighede sal getoets word); Die vermoë om leiding te neem en tegniese probleme heeltemal onafhanklik op te los; Die vermoë om effektief in spanverband, asook selfstandig te kan werk; Uitstekende interpersoonlike vaardighede; Die vermoë om kennis aan kollegas oor te dra.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling- An appropriate Linux qualification;- Experience in a university or research environment;- Experience in setting up and managing scientific software experiments and cluster servers;- Experience in building physical electronic systems from components.
