Job Title: Safety Officer

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer to ensure the health and safety of our employees in compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scaffolding, fall protection, hazard identification, risk assessment, and legal liabilities related to mining health and safety.

This role requires a proactive individual with experience in safety management, who can effectively develop and implement safety programs while promoting a culture of safety within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments on-site to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and national health and safety regulations, including those specific to mining and construction.
• Implement and monitor safety programs related to scaffolding, fall protection, and working at heights.
• Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines for scaffolding erectors, inspectors, and all other workers.
• Deliver training and awareness programs on safety practices, including working at heights, fall protection, and hazard identification.
• Investigate workplace accidents, prepare detailed reports, and recommend preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
• Ensure the availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for employees.
• Collaborate with other departments to maintain safety documentation and legal compliance.
• Maintain and update safety records, accident reports, and risk assessments as required.
• Serve as the point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns, providing advice on best practices and legal requirements.
• Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response procedures and drills.
• Monitor the implementation of safety improvements and provide feedback to management.

Qualifications and Experience:

• SAMTRAC or equivalent certification (Safety Management Training for Supervisors or similar).
• Proven scaffolding experience, with a clear understanding of scaffolding erection, inspection, and maintenance.
• Scaffolding training / courses: Certification in scaffolding erection or inspection.
• Fall protection developer certification or related experience in designing and implementing fall protection systems.
• Strong experience in hazard identification and risk assessment.
• Training or certification in working at heights.
• Knowledge of legal liability and health and safety regulations, specifically within the mining industry.
• First Aid certification (advantageous).
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar safety role, preferably in the construction or mining industry.
